Default Anyone know how the roads are north of Calgary?

My wife was supposed to go to Red Deer this morning and she's not super experienced in winter driving, just wondering if someone knew how the roads are?

I'm up in Edmonton, drove up here yesterday and they were clear all the way up. Hwy 2 was empty as well - one of the easiest drives up to Edm I've ever had.

The highway is in ok condition. There is some snow cover and some icy conditions; nothing unusual for this time of year. AMA has it listed as 'fair' conditions.

Check out their website here:

I live in Red Deer. As far as I know the roads are fine. Check Alberta transportation website. I's post a link but I am unsure of the address. It has road conditions and pictures at most of the overpass updated frequently.

The roads are dry and bare north of Red Deer. I'd imagine they are better south of Red Deer. Normal driving conditions at 120 km/h with the odd lifted truck blasting past at 170 km/h.

Sweet! Yeah I found it on the AMA website as well, that's a great idea!

Yeah, the roads all look pretty good from those cameras.

I always used to find coming from Red Deer that the roads often turned for the worst between Olds and Crossfield. You seem to get those crazy cross winds that blow a lot of snow onto the road and an unbelievable number of cars end up in the ditch and on their roofs on straight stretches of road. I suspect it must be cars hitting ice causing wheels to spin, only to get traction and cause some freak reaction. The first 25 kilometers South from Red Deer to Innisfail could get exceptionally bad too. I remember many a Saturday morning drive down to Calgary where there would be 70 cars in the ditch in that stretch and nothing after. No doubt some crazy stuff happens on certain stretches of that road.

I used to agree with you, but now that she's driving my son around she can go as slow as she needs as long as my kid is safe.
