Default Ex-KGB agent accused in Litvinenko death

http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNew...0522?hub=World

Russia prosecutors have refused to extradite a former KGB agent who Britain has charged in the poisoning death of Alexander Litvinenko.

A spokesperson for the Russian prosecutor general's office says it would be unconstitutional to extradite one of its citizens, but Andrei Lugovoi could still be tried in Russia.

....

"There was some question whether maybe this killing was officially sanctioned by the Russian government, but it's a very, very tense situation."

...

A legislator in Russia's upper house of parliament, meanwhile, said he doubted that Russian law prevented such extraditions and it should be possible to hand Lugovoi over to British authorities.

This whole thing reads like a really bad James Bond novel, at first I was somewhat doubtful about the circumstances and linking it to the Russian Government, but it was just too overblown and overthought to not be a government job. Especially since Putin was an old KGB director.

Using a poison thats been tracked back to Russia to me was really stupid. Why wouldn't you wait until he was walking alone, put a bulet in his head, take his wallet, and toss the gun down a sewer.

Probably partially because they wanted it to be traced back to them... to show that there are consequences for going to the West with information.

There is really nothing Britian can do about it... and Putin knows it.

Can KGB agent really be considered 'ex'. I dunno, but that doesn't seem like the type of organization you simply retire from.
