Default Canadian Coins Bugged

Wierd story of Canada bugging some coins to track military contractors

Seems kinda silly to me as the bug is likely to be spent quickly and then CSIS just wastes time tracking a coke machine or a Tim Horton's

pretty quick RFID will be in everything, i've personally dealt with the technology and the size of the IC is barely larger than a grain of sand, the antenna could easily be thread in a shirt etc.

it's more of a local-tracking thing, RFID is for identifying who and when and what is moving through doorways or along an assembly line etc. so it won't really have an effect once it's spent in circulation on the contractors originally planted.

Actually how many of us on here actually use coins at a Tims. I normally pull out a 5 or 10 spot instead of fishing for change and then the change goes into a jar or something.

I am sure foreign person(s) are less likely to use the coinage, I know in Europe with all the coins I was almost overwhelmed and didnt want to look like an idiot giving too less.

The only time I go to Tim's is when I have enough coins in my pocket to buy a coffee. I don't think I've ever used a bill there.

Wouldn't it make more sense to bug USD? Since most of the world uses that currency anyway. Mind you, getting RFID into small unmarked bills could be kind of hard...

i disagree, it would be very very easy, assuming it goes in during the production of the bill.

it's not a lot of circuitry, the grain-of-rice size (going into people now as verichip) :

http://www.tmcnet.com/usubmit/2004/Oct/1082567.htm

VeriChip is a subdermal RFID device that can be used in a variety of security, financial, emergency identification and other applications. About the size of a grain of rice, each VeriChip product contains a unique verification number that is captured by briefly passing a proprietary scanner over the VeriChip. The recommended location of the microchip is in the triceps area between the elbow and the shoulder of the right arm. The brief outpatient "chipping" procedure lasts just a few minutes and involves only local anesthetic followed by quick, painless insertion of the VeriChip. Once inserted just under the skin, the VeriChip is inconspicuous to the naked eye. A small amount of radio frequency energy passes from the scanner energizing the dormant VeriChip, which then emits a radio frequency signal transmitting the verification number.

is decades old technology essentially, it's not a brand new technology at all and besides maybe coils / capacitors there'd be nothing of real substance besides a potentially extremely flat fractal antenna.

what's new is the widespread implementation of RFID.

RFID 2 is a far safer technology from an identity theft perspective, it's a lot newer. as it stands i've worked with equipment that can easily grab the tag number and clone it onto a re-writable chip, which is what most RFID applications use.

EDIT: to clarify most RFID chips ouit there aren't re-writable but most of them can be cloned easily.

i've heard that, most interestingly is i think in daniel there's a passage aboot not being able to by or sell goods without the mark.

i've never been one for bible prophecy but that is definitely the spookiest i've heard of, very famous in the patriot / christian movements down south.

EDIT: oops that passage is in revelations if i recall...

This is a little off topic but......... if you want to **** off and employee of Tim Horton's , go in during the rush hours (6,7am 1,1:30 pm , 7,10 pm ) when there is a lot of customers and pay for everything in small change (dimes, nickels , pennies) but don't do it for something that like a dollar do it for like a sandwich or something, there is nothing that will **** them off more than having to stand there counting change ( cause they have to ) with a bunch of other people yelling at them.

As a former employee i have had this done to me , and i plan to get revenge......

O and about the trackers..... THERE WATCHING US ... i wonder if they can tell what the age of the person using the coin is..or what ther using it for....i hope not

Well, looks like this was all for naught...

http://othernews.ca.myway.com/articl.../13069014.html

A U.S. government defence agency has suddenly retracted its claim that Canadian coins containing tiny transmitters were planted on at least three American contractors who visited Canada

...

In a statement posted late Friday on its website, the Defense Security Service said the coin claims were based on a report provided to the agency.
"The allegations, however, were found later to be unsubstantiated following an investigation into the matter," the statement said, adding that "the 2006 annual report should not have contained this information."
The service's acting director has ordered an internal review of the circumstances leading up to publication of the information "to prevent incidents like this" from recurring.
