Mike Richards gets an on air partner
From Milkman Unlimited:
"Brothers" Kirkwood & Richards Together @ FAN 960
Abbotsford BC
Doug Kirkwood has announced that he is leaving his position with Rogers Abbotsford (see MMU's jobs) to team up with his friend of 20+ years, Mike Richards on "The Mike Richards Show" at FAN 960.
"To say Mike and I are close is an understatement," Kirkwood told MMU, "we are like Brothers, we call each other Brother, Mike emceed my wedding...yeah that close!"
"Oddly enough, my first job in radio back in 1988 was at 1050 Chum where I replaced Mike as the overnight producer. Fast Forward to 1998 the year Mike and I pitched Jimmy Waters himself with a demo to do the morning show on Chom in Montreal, he absolutely loved our demo and said "Guy's this awesome stuff, but we just signed Stern."
"Once again Mike went on to another station and I stayed at 1050. We finally "Teamed" up when 1050 flipped to "The Team" and we got a chance to work together for 15 months and then we both enjoyed the door. So we got fired together too !! LOL !!"

We'll see how funny they are. Does Richard's really need another voice on his show?

How's he gonna shoehorn Kirkwood between Bob Cole and Veejay Singh?

I agree. I don't think Richard's needs another voice on his show.

He could actually stand to lose a few voices.....like Jenna's......
Maybe it's just me but I really haven't been able to warm up to her at all - she drives me bananas on the Hitmen broadcasts and I find it difficult to listen to Richards now because of her.

It's hard listening to all those guys sometimes. Dave, Jenna, Rob, and Bruce are all annoying.
The only one I can actually listen to is probably Rick, but he hardly gets a word in. Maybe that's why.
Bruce has grown on me, but he still say some stupid stuff.
And I think Mike is all they really need on one show. Put 2 funny guys on it and it might get a little crowded.

I think that Rick just isnt a strong enough personality to hang with Mike. His questions and comments come off flat in comparison to Mike's banter. When Mike is talking to Steven Brunt (love his intro) or others they seem to hold their own much better.

Does this mean Rick Laffit is going to be booted of the morning show?
That would be a darn shame. Poor ol' Rick Laffit. We need a CP Jihad to get Rick Laffit his own show.
Perhaps called "La Sports Show with Laffit".

I totally agree! I had a chance to talk to Jenna and Mike a while back. I told them that I think Rick is under-rated and hilarious with his lines the he does sneak through. Jenna says that he has even funnier stuff that never gets to air.
I have always loved Mike Richards, but to be honest he was a bit of a jerk. I won't get into it, but that kind of ruined his show for me. He is still funny and everything, but its tough to listen to him now...Anyways, start that Jihad and I'm totally in!

I honestly think on a drive to school one day, it was nothing but 10 minutes of commercials.
But i think Richards is super funny, and listen all I can, but I do turn the XM back on when commercials hit.

Count me in as a Laffit fan. Very informed and pretty well spoken. Would like to see him get his own gig. He can take the 9am slot or take OT.

Just replace Dave Rowe with Rick, who actually knows wtf he's talking about when discussing sports other than racing. Rick is easily the most well rounded sports guy the Fan has. Jihad away.

I'm a fan of his too, doesn't usually pipe up with tons of needless banter.
I'm not sure if he could carry an entire show, but he'd do great on a program such as overtime where he could provide insightful and hopefully somewhat tempered responses, as well as not have to talk too much.

Rick is great.
Jenna although she does have a decent sports knowledge which many women in sports broadcasting don't...is just annoying, like Jody off CJAY...
Dave Rowe...oh man...2 words come to mind...absolute ****. It's amazing to me how he still has a career.
