Blood Diamond
Anybody see it yet? Just got back from watching it, and I gotta say, it was the one of the better movies I've seen. I'm not a fan of those ridiculous storylines like the Matrix trilogy or the everyday senseless fight movies, and this movie was anything but, and had a proper storyline. I'm also not a fan of movies that necessarily "teach" you something, but this movie was very well made, and got you thinking about the diamond industry and the brutality that goes on to getting those thousand dollar rocks. This was also the most graphic movie since Saving Private Ryan IMO. Worth checking out though.

I've heard good reviews, but I really despise going to the movies now because of the price. I think its outragous, but I will go for movies I really really want to see (Borat )
Worth the $$$?

I definitely think it's worth the money. A little more than 2 hours, and it was well made. Somewhat sad though, but damn is it graphic. What was impressive about it was the attention to detail. It took place in 1999, and such things as the laptop the chick was using was as thick as an encyclopedia, and other small stuff like small blood stains on his shirt and stuff...makes you feel like you were really there. A good movie though.

Great movie. Leonardo impressed me as an actor. Normally he just plays himself. Probably the best thing I have seen all year for drama. Pretty harsh to see those child soldiers and all the atrocities being comitted, but reality bites.
I am sure DeBeers is a big fan of this flick. I hope the cat gets out of the bag as far as the diamond insdustry goes.

After movies like Romeo & Juliet, Titanic and Man in the Iron Mask, I really hated DiCaprio, as Im sure most guys did. A little nancyboy for girls to drool over in chick flicks. But it seems that just about every movie Ive seen him in since then turns to gold. The Beach, Catch Me If You Can, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Blood Diamond...all outstanding movies(I hear The Aviator wasnt very good, never saw it though).
Now whenever I see him in a movie preview, I just assume its going to be a good movie. As soon as I saw him in the preview for Blood Diamond, I was planning on seeing it. That guy sure can pick his scripts.

I agree. I don't really watch many movies, but I was NOT a Leonardo Dicaprio fan after Titanic. In fact, because he starred in Gangs of New York and Romeo & Juliet, I avoided those movies.
After watching The Departed (the other stars in it convinced me to check it out), I am now a HUGE Leo fan. In fact, after that one movie, I'd have to say he's my favourite actor. Great performance on his part. I now want to see Blood Diamond just because he's in it

Blood Diamond is VERY good but it is not for the faint of heart. Not a lighthearted movie, but certainly one to make you think.

This is a very good movie. When my wife dragged me off to this movie I really did not want to go. I was surprised it was a good movie.

Haha honestly, embarassingly enough, I have to agree(maybe just below Johnny Depp; that dude can pull off any role in any accent). And watch Gangs of New York!! Daniel-Day Lewis is outstanding in it, he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor(may have won it, I cant recall) for that. Maybe its because Im such a history nerd, but I found the setting of mid-1800's New York ghettos fascinating.

I actually thought Leonardo's Irish accent was quite poor in Gangs of New York, and the movie was a bit slow, a bit long.
I want to see Blood Diamond, though. What's he supposed to be in this one? South African? Accent sounds weird on the previews, so either he's doing a good South African or else he's really botching an Aussie or Kiwi accent.

Saw Blood Diamond on Sunday night and was completely blown away, I loved every second of it. Very intense movie. Great action, great story, and fantastic acting, Djimon Honsou better win an Oscar for his role.

Wow.... definitely makes me take the basis of your opinion of his accents seriously... yeish!
Aussie or Kiwi?! BLOOD DIAMONDS?!
And in GofNY he was not fresh off the boat from Ireland, so why would he have a pure Irish accent? He was raised in an American orphanage so the mixed/muted accent was intentional, or at least excusable.

Yeah, DiCaprio might be easy to make fun of and everything, but he is a very very good actor. Catch me if you can, Aviator, Departed are 3 movies that really showed his diverse talent in multiple roles.
RE: Blood Diamond. Good to hear. I've been a little skeptical about the movie as it seemed a little too much content to put into 2 hours. It was do-able, but movies that try to fill in too much usually flop. I'll definatly have to give this movie a go.

Just got back from it tonight, it was a great movie. It made me relieved that the grad ring Im currently wearing is actually a cubic zerconia in the middle. It was driving me crazy because this family was behind me and wouldnt stop talking, and by talking I mean at a regular level, the entire movie. Awful.
Usually Id say something, but they were speaking in some African language and were clearly from over there, I felt bad shushing them in a movie which is probably hitting close to home for them. So I sucked it up and didnt say anything. I was glad I didnt, as when the movie was over, I looked over at them as I got up and every one of them had tears streaming down their faces. Very powerful movie.
btw was I the only one who noticed that the commander or whatever he was for the army is Imhotep from The Mummy? Took me a sec to peg him because he looks different with hair.

Haven't seen it yet, but really wannt too. Looks great, and reading all this stuff from you guys only raises the anticipation.
You guys are right about Leo too... the guy did nothing but sappy chick crap a few years ago it seemed, but he's recently come out with a number of gems.
Gangs of New York was brilliant.

Is there any chance Leo could have two Oscar nominations? Is that even possible? I loved both of his movies this year.

I agree, he was great in that. I don't hold Titanic against him, other than that I pretty much always enjoy his acting/films.

You got that right!
Saw it on NYE and was quite impressed. DiCapro was awesome in his role. I also liked Jennifer Garner in her role as a reporter. Very graphic in parts which made the movie more surreal.
