I don't necessarily think it was a bad trailer. Sure, the robot forms do look different, and the trailer is coming off as a war of the worlds type situation, but I think the movie will keep to the true form of what we are expecting. At least, I hope so.
I remember reading that Steven Spielburg said it will keep to the true spirit of transformers.
Help me out. I played with Transformers when I was a kid, but I never really watched the show for whatever reason. What exactly are you guys expecting/wanting this movie to be like? What's true Transformer form?
Location: Chiefs Kingdom, Yankees Universe, C of Red.

They have made some changes. I havn't been following that closely. But the one change I know is that Bumblebee is not a yellow VW bug. He is going to be some sort of sports car. But the makers said it doesn't matter what he looks like, his character is the same. If that is the case, they should make Optimus Prime a space ship.

I see. From the trailer it looked like Bumblebee was a new Mustang.
Bumblebee is a Camaro. He starts off as an old, rusted 70s Camaro and then turns into the new 2007 Camaro concept. There is a Mustang in this movie but he's a Decepticon cop car.
IMHO, the robots in this film all look attrocious.
Sorry, but I will always prefer this movie from 1986 - with great Japanese animation. Rocking 80s soundtrack from cool metal bands including the Saskatchewan Band "Kick-Axe" (came to Calgary a few times in the 80s)...and music by Vince DiCola otherwise known as the guy who composed the music for Rocky IV!
BTW, no matter what Bay does, he is in a lose-lose situation. Either he isn't being true to the show or if he is true to the show, he will blasted for making a cheesy flick. Let's face it, Transformers was a kids cartoon, and we all loved it as children, but do you think it should be the same today?? Not a chance, an updated feel on this is what it needs. Otherwise, the movie would just be a ****ing joke, the show needs to have a so-called "serious" feel to it. Probably not the right word, because serious and Transformers in the same sentence is pretty stupid.
Also, Bay;s reputation will hurt this movie, despite the fact he has made great action flicks in the past and I think this one will be no different, I really could care less how different this is from the cartoon.
I never thought about the fact that the Transformers are aliens more than seeing these pictures. I think that is the point they are trying to get across more than anything with this film. Look at the tag line "Their War. Our World." I think that this is the way the robots had to look to make the alien technology different from what you'd see on earth. Very ID4-ish...
I don't think that it will take away from the feel of the movie. I doubt it'll be a (name of a child had out of wed lock)ization of the characters or story.
Having said that it's tough to watch that new Transformers cartoon, and GI Joe for that matter, for some reason. Won't be hard to get into this movie at all.
This movie is NOT a continuation of the original Transformer series. The only thing it has in common is names, planet of origins and the fact that they transform. Truth be told all they need is the last one to be called Transformers. I am sick of these people whining about Optimus Prime not looking like a box and Megatron not wearing a bed-pan. This isn't the show from when you were a kid, it's aiming for a more grown up audience. Unless you want a movie about the poorly dubbed Armada/Energon/Cybertron line, I'm sure you'd be please with the sketchy voice acting and childish themes. I mean hey, the characters look more similar to what you rememembred as a kid! The cheesy stories will also remind you!
Personally? I think that as this movie has been through production the character models have looked better and better.
As for Megatron, that is his Cybertron mode. He will most likely get an earth Alt-Mode and they are hiding it.
