#4 Introduction of Coaches
In a move that was completely new to the CPHL, the league decided to have a random draft, giving each GM the opportunity to select a coach to run their team, taking some of the pressure off of the GM’s. GM Axel Axmann made history when he selected Jacque Martin 1st overall. A lot of good that did the Flames as they have underachieved this year suggesting that the coach really doesn’t make much of an impact at all. Randy Carlyle became the first coach fired after the Nashville Predators struggled out of the gates to start the season. After much hype about being the best team in the history of the world, Carlyle got the blame and was dumped. It didn’t do a whole lot of good however because the Predators are still crap. Will coaches play a more predominate role when the playoffs role around? Who knows but this GM highly doubts it. As I post this I will be heading to my roster page to find out who I selected to be my coach. This is one part of the game I have not thought about or cared enough about to have fun with. Some people do, some don’t. But because this new element was brought into play during the summer off-season, it is worth being the #4 story of the CPHL in 2006.
