I was just wondering where I could get an overpriced, under-performing gaming console!

Yep they went pretty quick. I guess people like overpriced, under-performing gaming consoles.

I'm stunned at how many people just don't wait for the price to be brought down to where it should be, and the bugs to be worked out. Thats all. Its like buying a car the first year in production. You just don't do it.

You do understand that Sony loses quite a bit of money per console sold right??
I do agree that waiting out the kinks is a good idea, I waited to buy a 360 and those who bought launch systems have them dying left and right but my 360 hasn't crashed once since I got it.

They aren't overpriced - it's actually underpriced for what it takes to manufacture. The PS3 is about the cheapest Blu-ray player you can buy.
Yes they are all guaranteed to have kinks...
But the manufacturers usually offer to fix or replace the problems eventually anyway and the point in buying these is the experience of playing them. Many people want them just for playing together with family or friends during Christmas...especially the Wii.

No I didn't know that. Now I am even more shocked. I just can't imagine spending the kind of money on a gaming console.

Yeah.. Sony loses about $300 per unit sold. They need something like 30 games per console sold to make up the loss. It's purely a tool to push Blu-ray

I've had my PS3 for over a month, and havent had a single problem. Neither have the 5 other people I know that have one. I've even left it running a whole weekend at one point.
The console is great. The media PC potential of having Linux right there is great. Having a Blu-Ray players is awesome. The dissapointment to me are the launch games. There are only a handful that appeal to me.
The price wont come down in the next year, but the value will go up by the way of way better games being available.

How many movies are available on Blu-ray? And how much are they?

I dont know how many forsure - maybe 200? More are on this list than that, but some arent released until early 2007. I am not sure this list is comprehensive.
http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/
They range from $24 to $40. Most of them are $30. Hitch and xXx are $24 at Best Buy, while at the same time, some suprisingly bad movies are $40.
The best deal is the Mission Impossible Boxset of all three MI's for $69.99 at Best Buy.
I quit buying DVD's about 1/2 a year ago in anticipation of the High Definition formats, so I have enough Blu-Ray's to buy for quite some time. And, a majority of new releases are released in both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray (and DVD), so I can keep buying Blu-Rays into the future.

There was a demo set up at London Drugs yesterday running the NBA game.
I played it and was really impressed....until the machine rebooted. So I tried it again, until it rebooted again. Then I walked away.

I think it's designed to do that at the PS3 kiosks to stop people from hogging the machine. It does that on a few games since they are all demos specifically for the kiosk PS3s on the harddrive.

The machine rebooted and wnet into what looked like a bios screen. I'm pretty sure it wasn't intentional. It would be pretty stupid to make it look like it crashed; that's quite the impression to leave.

I was at HMV at TD yesterday, and they had a whole bunch of PS3s. Almost was thinking of getting one, until I heard the price tag attached to them. Surprised that there were so many consoles there, though.

Ya, I went at lunch time, and they had got the shipment that morning. So it took a couple hours for them to sell out. I was speaking to the guy at the counter and he was stunned they were still around. Which building are you in?
