Some of the prostitutes in Ipswich's red-light area have given police names of their customers and detectives are trying to compile a complete list.

Its unlikely that its a john if you go by the normal profile. The killer see's these girls as prey and sub animal, nothing else. He probably hates woman for some real or perceived wrong, and is killing them in the hopes that it will both cleanse his soul, and his rage, and whatever compulsion is driving him.
Jack the Ripper didn't kill those girls for some sexual gratification, his killings were almost like revenge. Same with the Yorkshire killer.
Serial Killers are interesting and horrible. They're usual of above average intelligence, have a fairly normal upbringing on the surface, and you wouldn't be able to look at one and say he was a killer.
Ted Bundy was a brilliant individual who was complimented by the judge on his case, but it was his own arrogance and self god complex that doomed him.

Most are. But some are not. I don't think Gary Ridgeway was above average intelligence. Yet he baffled police for over two decades.

That guy gave an interview with a newspaper on sunday saying how bad the lives of those girls were because of drug addiction. He said he was their friend and always talked to them and tried to help them. In the same interview he said he has no aliby to where he was on those dates and he expects the police to arrest him for questions which they did. But last night they arrested another man. No one knows how close they are to catching the murderer but they are questioning 2 men. Its a start i suppose but they have 500 officers on the case which is a lot.

If you move around and change the MO slightly, it wouldnt be that difficult to baffle police. Police work is about developing a pattern and then matching that pattern. Those who get caught are either too stupid and follow the same pattern or they get cocky and leave items behind. The problem being that someone who is insane enought to kill, likely doesnt plan out how not to be caught.
