Default Wings and Leafs....Blockbuster! thats right....BLOCKBUSTER!

Its been 10 games now since the Wings had fired Lou Lamoriello. It has also been 10 games since Detroit last won a hockey game. At the time of the firing Detroit was in the thick of a playoff spot. Sitting just five points out of that 8th and final spot. Its left many fans scratching there heads wondering if this invisible coach of there's has been giving a Sim ratting yet. In any case the weakest link on the team has been there goal tending. With all the new additions on the team fitting in nicely scoring has never been a problem for Detroit. The problem could be the defense, but when you out shoot the opposition 80% of the time and still cant win the finger pointing has to be at the goaltender.

Ever since GM Guns was a rookie GM in the CPHL and was bent over back-wards by his then Mentor Johnny Flame by trading away starting goalie Oleg Kolzig (cause he got all hot and bothered at the opportunity to bring in Mikka Kiprussoff) who was still very unproven in the NHL at the time. Only to trade Mikka away a couple short weeks later. Again being bent over but this time by Leafs gm Super Nerd. Hey! at the time Kipper for Cechmanek seemed like the thing to do. Then trading Sim god Cechmanek back to the Leafs later in the season for Sean Burke. Now after playing almost a entire season with the Sergei Priakin winner (most underrated player) Johan (more holes than 2Pac) Hedberg it appears the horse shoe's that were logged in Hedbergs keister all of last season have fallen out......... Now after saying all this I cant really remember where I was going with all this its kinda like one of them sentence's that never go anywhere but just seems to go on forever without any periods or commas.

To make a long story short Jonathan Cheechoo and Johan Hedberg have been traded to the Leafs for Marty (Mr Vezina) Turco and some young guy who Ive been told could be decent someday named Stefan Ruzicka.

Now back to my 24 of beer!

Good deal both ways. Wings needed a goalie and got an elite one in Turco. Leafs had 2 good goalies so they got a good backup in Hedberg and a sniper in Cheechoo. Nice deal.

I'd guess you only have a couple of those beers left. But the price of a top goalie is high. The market determines the cost you had to pay. So while it seems like a steep price (Cheechoo), I wouldn't have moved Vokoun and a decent prospect for Cheechoo. So, its probably a good deal for you. The Leafs have Lundqvist, so it could turm out to be a pretty good move for them down the road as well.
Ultimately, I like it when a good goalie travels to the other conference.

Only thing you could do Guns. Get a goalie.

You can get a Cheechoo clone easier than you can get a goalie in this league.

I figured something would give in Toronto with him having Lundquist and Turco, and Marty being a pending UFA who'll get 10 million on the open market. Probably a deal thats a good fit for both teams. Any time you upgrade a goalie it's worth it.

Leafs are happy to land Cheechoo... I think this deal will make both teams better in the long run.

We were very happy going into the season with Turco and Lundqvist in net and it looked like we'd be one of the best defensive teams in the league. Unfortunately that hasn't happened and if you have a valuable player who's not helping you win than it's usually best to move him on. That was the case with Turco. He wasn't helping us win this year and who knows if we could/would resign him for next season. And when you consider how valuable the top starting goalies are around here, does it make sense to have 2 of them? Might as well pick one for the long term and use the other to improve the rest of your team.

So on he goes to Detroit where he will definately solve the goaltending problems they've had for as long as I've been in the league. Meanwhile, Cheech will play on Datyuk's line and hopefully develop some chemistry.
