Just wandering around cyberspace seeing who is saying what about last nights debate. Clearly these snap polls dont mean a whole lot in the outcome of elections, but so far here is what is being written.

A CNN/USA Today/Gallup snap poll taken immediately after the presidential debate found that respondents gave a significant edge to Kerry over Bush, 52 percent to 39 percent.

From ABC

Oct. 13, 2004 -- Sen. John Kerry and President Bush battled to another draw in their last debate of the 2004 campaign, with perhaps more bragging rights to Kerry, since more Republicans tuned in.

Among registered voters who watched the debate, 42 percent called Kerry the winner, 41 percent said Bush won and 14 percent called it a tie. That's similar to the outcome of the second debate, while Kerry won the first among viewers by a nine-point margin.

A CBS News poll of uncommitted voters who watched the debate named Kerry the winner by 39-25 percent over Mr. Bush, with 36 percent calling it a tie.

Some wild swings overall.

Day after analysis

Mopping the Floor with Bush?

Bush's Blunder

And a clip that's already making the round. From CSPAN.

Not Concerned about Bin Laden

This last one basically sets the issue straight. Bush is a war president of convenience.

Somebody will be splicing the "Bin Laden has no place to train killers anymore" quote with scenes of the WTC within a day or two. That's the only sure thing.

Kerry knows his material. He has greater mastery of the issues a president needs to know than the president himself does. His delivery seemed a bit too wonky, but I'll take wonkiness over ignorance any day. Bush simply misstated the facts on both Osama bin Laden and health care. He was strong and focused on taxes, but was out of touch with real people on jobs, health care and minimum wage, and got hammered on Social Security. And while Bush usually has a good sense of humor, he was forced and phony every time he tried to tell a joke.

I thought this was the most boring, least eloquent of the three debates, which is saying something. I am amazed that Kerry went through an hour and a half without mentioning stem cell research or corporate corruption. I think he also still has trouble with tax questions. Bush was not too adept in talking about Social Security reform. The election has been frozen for almost two weeks, and I can't imagine this debate will change anything.

Solid performance by each candidate, but neither did enough to lay out a compelling agenda on jobs. Nor did either offer a compelling phrase or an especially memorable moment.

Grades show the average of CNN.com user scores in each category.

Total: 560355 user votes C C+ B+ B+ (Delivery/Content, Bush/Kerry)

With the LA Times Electoral Vote Tracker I have it, 259 Bush, 268 Kerry, with 11 up for grabs in Iowa and New Hampshire. 270 needed to win.

President Bush and Sen. John Kerry were both as good as they get on Wednesday night in the third and final presidential debate, though I suspect Kerry won over more undecided voters than Bush, bringing him closer to winning the White House in this dead-even race.

Electoral-vote.com seems to include the overnight polling in its current projection of 284 electoral votes for Bush, 228 for Kerry. Their map is missing right at the moment though but the site is dated today.
