Grammy Nominees
Grammy Nominees
Quote:
Mary J. Blige tops the nominations with eight, while Red Hot Chili Peppers garner six, James Blunt, the Dixie Chicks, John Mayer, Danger Mouse, Prince, Rick Rubin, will.i.am and John Williams each earn five nods. Beyoncé, Bryan-Michael Cox, Gnarls Barkley, Israel Houghton, T.I and Justin Timberlake receive four each.

Full List
Only thing of real interest to me is TOOL was nominated for two, including Best Hard Rock Performance and the headache inducing Best Recording Packaging.

What do you mean Jethro Tull isn't nominated for best metal album?
At least this year's list doesn't make me weep for humanity like the last few years.

I'm surprised to see Imogen Heap in the New Artist category. I've been listening to her for years. Perhaps her music is more mainstream now?

True..most of those people can actually be considered talented on some level. However, its still not an accurate representation of the best music being made...you can't tell me the RHCP's are doing the best work of their career, worthy of that many nominations.

Popularity contest, that's all. I thought the Chili Peppers album was an absolute bomb, and yet, somehow they get 6 nominations??? I haven't heard a single thing from Beyonce, but her album was ripped to shreds by critics...and what the heck is Prince getting a nod for? Has the guy made anything in the past 5 years?

Musicology, which was sweet. I haven't heard his latest. I really liked the Chili's latest offering.

Nice to see Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, and Neil Young get nominated but for Best Rock Vocal Performance? I'd give these guys writing and music awards in a second but everyone knows they don't have the greatest vocals.

Bill Maher has a great idea. Every year awards shows should make one past winner return an award.
Sorry Mr. Benigni, we made a mistake, and you need to return that Oscar.

She's always been very indie. Speak For Yourself is still on her own label in the UK. It's probably based on all the attention she's gotten from having songs on The OC

You must have missed that part about James Blunt being nominated for 5 Grammy's. Just brutal.

James Blunt cracks me up...he writes one terrible cheesey song, goes on Oprah, and as a result will make more money than I'll ever see in my life. Plus he has one of the hottest supermodel girlfriends i've ever seen in my life. I hate him, but I want to be him.
Now off I go to try and write my mediocre (at best) hit single that will set me up for life.

He is extremely overrated. Totaly one hit wonder. Maybe a one album wonder. Most of the Grammy's is just based on the top 40, which typically isn't the most original or creative music out there.

There are too many awards shows, I have given up caring. I may be curious and peek at who won, but between Grammys, MTV Music Awards, MTV Video Awards, Muchmusic Video Awards, VHI awards, Lating Grammys, East Coast Music Award, all the movie awards, all the TV awards, I can't be bothered keeping up anymore.

All the MTV awards are a collective joke. Just a chance for celebrities to schmooze and promote their latest album/movie/product.

Atleast the MTV awards can be funny, the awards themselves however are basically the countdown from the week before. The Grammys and especially the Academy Awards are so dull.
