What to do about bad neighbors
So here is my situation, I have some neighbors across the road who are some pretty rough individuals. They work doing concrete and are wanna be bikers.
I have 2 problems. The first is that their yard is just a freaking eye sore, I've complained to the city numerous times about them using his house and garage as a storage area for their equipment but the city has yet to do anything.
The second problem comes with their noise at all hours of the morning. For instance last night the wife and I were woken up by them reving their obnoxiously loud motorbikes. Now this isn't a once in a while occurance but probably occurs at least once every two weeks, if not more, and during the middle of the week. We have called the cops numerous times but it seems that they take over an hour to respond so by the time we finally call them and they arrive they have packed it in for the night. Last night they were at it for over an hour. We have approached them about it as well and my wife has gone over in her PJ's a few times to yell at them but they still can't get the hint
Anybody have any advice or know what to do in a situation like this?

Video tape. Record the time on your TV, and when the cops show up, give them the tape.
Why are you sending your wife over to talk to the wannabe bikers?

Man, that sucks.
Are you calling 911, or 266-1234? Another option is going down to your local police station and asking to speak to an officer. That way you have a better chance of getting an officer who isn't pressed for time- ie doesn't have a violent crime to attend to immediately once he's done with you.
Keep a journal; buy a seperate notebook. Document everything; that way you aren't telling the police "they are doing it a lot." You have the dates and times recorded.

I'm actually calling the Lethbridge city police complaint line
Looger, yes we have tried talking to them (besides the trip over late at night and cursing at them) but I don't think they really care

Any sort of noise-complaint will not be taken on 911 and either the 911 operator or the CPS member will get you to phone 266-1234.

You have to word it properly when talking to the police. Alway's use the words suspicious activity. They seem to respond to that quicker.

taking my own thread off topic but my old roommate forgot his key one time and he left the bar before I did. I came home to about 5 cop cars and numerous cops surrounding my house because there had been a report of "suspicious activity" at my house. Turns out my roommate popped out his window and climbed through to get in because he didn't have his key.
Sometimes these hillbilly's sit in their vehicle, ****ed outta their tree listening to music...could we technically call them in on a DUI seems how the keys are in the iginition? or for instance last night reving their wanna be Harley?

I've been told that the Lethbridge Police Service usually only has two cars out at night (after midnight). You can usually find one of them in the parking lot outside of Mac's on the westside (at least 5 years ago when I lived on the westside I'd see it sitting there quite regularily).
As for what to do with the neighbours. Send them a Christmas card. Smother them with kindness, then politely tell them that their late night antics disturb your sleep. If that doesn't do a thing to help... its war! Obviously if they are making all sorts of noises in the middle of the night, they sleep at day. Just do the same during the day. As far as I know there is no noise bylaw in Lethbridge during the day (except for noise coming from a car) so just make all sorts of noises that would wake up your neighbours during the daytime.
As for their yard, it doesn't take much for the city to do anything. I'm surprised your complaints have gone unanswered. I phoned to complain about my neighbours grass a couple of years ago. They didn't cut the grass at all one year and it was super long, so long that it was laying down because it couldn't stand up. There was snakes living in their grass and coming into my yard. Unfortunately for me, snakes is a phobia of mine and I just couldn't stand going into my yard. I used an entire box of moth-balls along the fence between our two yards and that kept the snakes out, but for peace of mind I called the city to complain. Two days later the city came and cut the grass for them (and when they do that the home owner usually gets a fine).

We could still hear them because they talk so loudly. Next thing we heard a huge howl "Oh, my god!" and a loud clunk. Someone had lifted the lid on the metal mail box and taken a sniff.
