That type of practice is unacceptable. The young man gave his life for his country and deserves better treatment than that.

How else was he to be transported and removed from the aircraft? Seems to me the luggage conveyor was the only option.

If Air Canada of all companies can seperate my bike from the rest of the luggage so it didn't go down the conveyor due to it's size I have no doubt that any airline would be able to locate the flag drapped casket of a soldier and bring it to a more acceptable area. I don't have a problem with the transportation of the body on an airline - that is reasonable but the crap that followed is completely unacceptable.

There wasn't any better option than that? Was there no other area by the plane that the body could have been picked up?

He deserved better treatment than that after giving his life for his country.

As alarming as the way the soldier's remains left the plane, I find the length of time after he was killed to be returned to the States to be more disturbing. Six weeks? Wow.

OK, then my reasoning behind this is flawed. I said the above under the impression all luggage from the cargo hold is taken down a conveyor unloader. If I'm wrong, then yes, I can see everyones point.

edit: Question: At what point on the conveyor system did they see the casket? Seems that it had to have been in the public view, so I assumed it was at the point closest to aircraft. I don't see how a casket can even fit through the sorting conveyor system that is out of the publics view. Plus they mention "because you realize what was coming out of the plane…"

I guess what I'm getting at is... if they saw it while being unloaded, then I can live with that. How do they know what happened with it the rest of the way?

While this sort of thing is deplorable, there are far worse issues coming out of Iraq than this. Honestly, I don't know why this sort of thing gets media attention. It should have been dealt properly without the coverage.

Of course, nothing like a sad story from Iraq to stir debate among the masses.

Really...this is a news story...which is why the media picked it up. It is something we need to be aware of.

Why? I don't see why this issue needs to get media coverage. All it serves to do is enrage Americans even further about the war. The people who initially reported it did the right thing; their concerns were valid and im sure many other people took notice of it too. I just don't see why there needs to be reporters all over this story.

I'd rather have not known about this and have it dealt with in a private manner.

Just me though.
