Kyle Wellwood sends Atlanta forward Shawn Bates into his bench Wednesday night.

ATLANTA - Jiri Hudler's 7th of the season extended his point streak to 9 games as the Islanders dropped the Thrashers 3-2.

One night after handing the Ottawa Senators a 7-2 defeat, the New York Islanders flew to Atlanta and ended up sneaking out with another two points to extend their winning streak to three games.

Jiri Hudler remained hot Wednesday evening opening the scoring at 7:53 of the second period after a scoreless first, beating Marc Denis with a shot through the legs of the Atlanta netminder.

Nik Antropov would expand that lead to two goals later in the period beating Denis once again through the five-hole before Jay Pandolfo would bring the Thrashers to within one a minute after Antropov's goal.

Robert Nilsson notched his 13th of the season in the third period when the Swedish centre swept in a gift in the Atlanta crease to put the Islanders up by a pair once again.

Atlanta made it interesting at 12:28 on the powerplay when Scott Walker's one-timer from 5 feet out went off the post and in beating Islanders netminder Steve Shields.

The Islanders shut the door the rest of the way, holding the Thrashers shotless for the remaining 7 minutes of the third period giving Shields only his 3rd win of the season improving his record to 3-5-1.

Goaltender Cam Ward watched from the pressbox for the second straight game as he continues to recover from a pulled groin sustained in a game last week against the Vancouver Canucks.

The Islanders and Thrashers will get a chance to pick up where they left off tomorrow in the second half of this home and home in Long Island.

Nice win for the Leafs. After losing 3 of 4 this one feels good.

The 1st and 2nd line scored all 6 goals. Marleau led the way with 3 assists and got the 1st star. Turco was good enough. And we finally killed some penalties... Lightning 0 for 5 on the PP.

Let's see if we can keep it up though. The Leafs have been stuck around 500 all season. Aside from a 4 game winning streak early in the year it's been back and forth between wins and losses. Hopefully we can build on this win.

Well the team played a decent game but came out as hard luck 3-2 losers to the Sens. Nick Boynton being the classless goon he is injures Eric Cole in the first period. Typical of the Senators, what a classless bunch of buttclowns.

Kings Douse Flames

Calgary, Alberta - The Los Angeles Kings were able to continue their winning ways with a 6-3 triumph over the Flames in Calgary. The high scoring affair saw team leader Alexander Frolov extend his point scoring streak to 6 games. "We are playing through a tough string of injuries right now and the schedule is of no help to us" exclaimed semi-insane Coach Keenan after the nights victory. "However, every team is going through the same thing, there is no room for excuses." Frolov moved into the goal scoring lead on the team with 13 and was voted 1st star for his performance on the night. "It good to get recognition but I just want win each night, nothing else. Smiles and win" said Frolov on his victory after the game. When questioned on his grammar skills it was learned that Frolov had recently attended VNU (Ville Nieminen University).

Wild Roll Over Bean-Town

Times have indeed changed in Boston.

The Minnesota Wild downed the re-vamped Bruins lineup on Wednesday with a 7-1 victory. The young Bruins squad was overmatched by the Wild who held the Bs to just 13 shots.

Peter Bondra led the way with a 4 point effort, while Joe Sakic and Brian Rafalski each put up 3.

Head Coach Andy Murray said the game was a complete effort.

"Certainly its a different Bruins team now and you have to jump on a young team like that. I thought we came out strong and just built over the course of the game".

- Turner Stevenson was recalled to the Wild and posted an assist in his season debut.
- Simon Gagne was activated from IR after the game and will back in the lineup on Thursday.

Blues punish the Capitals

The Blues played the Capitals tonight in a very exciting game. Plenty of shots, hits and saves kept the fans on their feet. The Young Guns line of Sid, Ovechkin and Hemsky combined for 4 goals, 6 assists and a +5 rating. Hasek played well again facing 24 shots and putting 21 aside.

Win #7 not so lucky for Pens

Sergei Gonchar leaves the ice with a look of concern on his face after landing awkwarding
early in the 3rd period of the Pens win against the Wings.

Pens 3 Wings 1: The Pittsburgh Penguins continued to roll winning their 7th straight on Wednesday, however they will have to win #8 without their top defenseman. Sergei Gonchar fell awkwardly after an innocent looking collision early in the 3rd period. Gonchar left the ice and it was clear to Pens fans the way his shoulder was hanging, he would not be back. Gonchar suffered a seperated shoulder in the collision and will be lost for 4-6 weeks. The loss is a huge one for the Pens as Gonchar has logged an average of over 25 mins in each of the Penguins 6 straight wins prior to last nights game.

On the ice Jason Spezza continued to impress scoring 2 goals giving him 8 in his last 3 games. Martin Gerber was stellar in his 2nd straight start stoping 23 out of 24 shots fired his way. The Pens will look to forge on without Gonchar and find away to get win #8 against the Florida Panthers when the battle of Newfoundland goes for round 2 tonight.

Canadiens target Handzus. The bum Matt Cooke delevered a vicious crosscheck to the back of Handzus' next early in the 2nd period. Andy Sutton then returned the favor to Francois Beauchemin later in the same period.


The only bright spot for the Dogs was Sundin scoring his 10th on the season.

Injuries are piling up, the Blues should have an easier time against us Thursday night.

Stars drop OT thriller to Ducks

The Dallas Stars once again found a way to lose a game that they should have won. "With all due respect to Anaheim, these are the games we have to win in order to succeed," explained coach Marc Crawford.

The Stars found themselves down 3-1 after two periods of play. A couple of goals courtesy of Mike Leclerc and Milan Michalek in the third forced the game into OT, when Rene Bourque potted the winner 0:59 into the extra frame.

The Stars PP was their undoing on this night, as they went 0/10 with the man advantage. "Our PP was terrible tonight," stated Darryl Sydor after the game. "We get one PP goal and we win, but we failed."

It must have been the inspiration of everyone saying goodbye that lit the fire in Patrick Sharp. Sharp scored twice in a 5-4 win lastnight, once short handed.

Shaone Morrisonn was brutally taken down in front of the boards by Preds goon Trent Hunter. Hunter was subsequentally tossed from the game. The league will review further punishment to Hunter for his careless and wanton actions on the ice lastnight. Morrisonn is seeking therapy at Trixie's House of Massage. It is hoped he will be fixed up and good as new in a relatively short period of time.

Canadiens Shuffle Lines and Put Forth Solid Effort

The Montreal Canadiens have been experimenting with different line combinations all season long. Players like Martin St.Louis have seen action on all four lines at some point this season. Last night against the Phoenix Coyotes, Martin St.Louis moved to center the top line. Originally lining up between Alfredsson and newly acquired Matt Cooke. Moving Alfredsson and St.louis onto the same line opened up an opportunity for young forward Jeff Taffe. Taffe has often been a healthy scratch or a spectator in uniform for most of the season. Today he was slotted in on the second line beside Steven Reinprecht and Keith Tkachuk. Taffe opened the scoring half way through the first period when he deflected a Kimmo Timonen shot past Vesa Toskala.
Inspired by this sudden opportunity given to younger players Tuomu Ruutu, setup John Madden for the second goal of the game only a minute and twenty seconds after Taffe's goal.
Not to be outdone, St.Louis took a breakout pass from Ed Jovanovski, and fired a shot over Toskala's left shoulder for Montreal's third goal in less than one and a half minutes.

The second period did not see any goals scored, but there was a couple incedences which brought the fans out of their seats. First, Matt Cooke, trying to break-up up a 3 on 2 rush by the Coyotes. Caught Michael Handzus from behind, unfortunatley, he ruined a great effort by crosschecking Handzus from behind. Handzus slid into the net and left the game with an undisclosed injury. Cooke was given a game misconduct. This event was followed up blatant attempt for revenge. Following a stoppage of play, Andy Sutton joined a crowd in front of the Canadiens net and crosschecked Francois Beauchemin. Beauchemin, left the game with what is being reported as minor whiplash. Beachemin will miss some action although there is not a timeline for his return at this point. Sutton was given a game misconduct.

The Canadiens, finished the game with a goal set-up by Martin St.louis. Keith Tkachuk, double shifted in the absence of Cooke, converted a slick pass for a 4-0 lead midway through the third.

The Coyotes broke the shut-out bid with a powerplay goal late in the third.
The Canadiens are in the middle of a stretch which will see them play 11 games in 15 nights. So far the Habs have a record of 3-0-1-2, getting points in all 6 games. The Canadiens play the Nords tonight and the Wild the following night. Expect a few changes to the lines as the Habs try to avoid fatigue as they navigate this difficult stretch.
