Question CPS Background Check question

My Fiancee is in the teaching program at the U of C and she needs a background check done to be eligible to do her practicum at an elementary school in Calgary.

She realized the check needed to be done only a few weeks ago and went in and paid to have the check done, however the usual wait time for a background check is 5-6 weeks. Turns out she starts at the school tomorrow morning, but without the background check completed she might not be able to interact with the kids.

I'm wondering if there is any way to fast track the background check, or to have some sort of interim solution in place so that she isn't forced to miss time for her practicum. When I asked the lady at CPS if there was any way to expedite the process, she said there was nothing that could be done.

Thought I would lob this one out to the brain trust and see if there is any work-around that could make the process go quicker.

Merci.....

It takes longer now because they don't just check the name, now they check DOB and place of birth. I read somewhere they adopted this method to weed out sex offenders who change their name or receive pardons.

Yea, I never recalled the process taking that long when I had background checks for other jobs. It could be because it is a job that deals directly with children. Still wondering if the process can be made to go a little faster, or if there is an independent retailer that does CPS approved background checks for a little extra $$

Probably not, otherwise the system could be compromised.

I hope she only recently learned about the background check so she has a reason its not completed. I'd hate to procrastinate on something like that, and end up in trouble at the new job.

My girlfriend ran into the exact same thing except she was hired in the last week of August as a teacher and they wouldn't let her start until she had one. Thankfully they accepted her one from a previous position and her contract was pending until they were done.

The girlfriend ending up driving to Sherwood Park RCMP and getting it done there...it was only a week for non-residences. She tried a bunch of RCMP here but none of them would do it. Its kinda a scam really.

So Sherwood park RCMP perhaps....We paid $30 for the CPS one, but if it costs that + some time to just get it done it might be worth staying in the fantasy land hotel for a night
