When should I sell my PS3's and Wii's?
There was a shipment of PS3's and Wii's at my local Costco today, so my girlfriend and I each decided to pick up one of each with the intention of flipping them (although I may end up giving my Wii to my little brothers as a Christmas present). A few of my co-workers mentioned the PS3's were selling for close to $1500 CDN and the Wii's were going for double or even triple the MSRP. So we figured, what the hell.
I checked E-Bay tonight, and the highest ending bid for a PS3 I saw was $1050 CDN including shipping, and the Wii was mid 400's.
That would be a tidy little profit of $370 on the PS3 and $175 on the Wii.
My question is this- should I wait until closer to Christmas to sell them? I have read that Nintendo will have 2.2 million units sold/available for Xmas, versus 200-400k for the PS3. Should I sell the Wii now and wait a little on the PS3? Sell both now? Wait on both?
And when I decide to sell, should I go local (newspaper, buy and sell, etc.) or is E-Bay the best way to go? Does that matter if I wait or not? Anyone have any info regarding potential shipments of these systems?

Ahhh the Spirit of Christmas shining through. Nothing like a good scalping of a new game system to say "Happy Holidays!!!"

People are seriously spending over a thousand bucks for the PS3?
That's mind-boggling.

I would sell immediately and be happy with a great profit. I have dabbled in various collectables (no, it's not the same, but you are dealing with a similar spike). I find that prices on items that are hot only stay that way for a short time, then they come crashing down. Yes, it is possible that you might not get the absolute highest price. However, you know that prices will be closer to what you paid in couple of months. Every week that passes, more and more people that have gone without think that they can just wait until they can buy it themselves.
James.

I choose to with hold my advise, because, if you are not smart enough to figure it out on your own, you shouldn't be doing this. I think you are really just bragging about having a WII and and a PS3.

or you could, you know, get in the festive spirit if you aren't going to use it and sell it at face value?

Somewhere there's a little 8 eight year old kid who's going to cry on Christmas because the one thing he asked for for Christmas, a PS3, wasn't under the tree. Turns out they were all sold out in his town and his parents couldn't afford to pay the guy who horded all the supply on launch day. Bah humbug!

eBay has set up a minimum feedback level to sell PS3s through their site ... I can't remember exactly what it is though, just that I don't meet the requirements there (or the requirement of having one to sell).

Sell the wiis now - otherwise you'll be lucky to get MSRP for them - Nintendo has fairly regular shipments going into the retailers - Just this week I've seen 3 different shipments arrive at various retailers around the city.
And pray that you find someone desperate enough to not wait that extra day or two for a Nintendo and will be willing to cough up extra dough for yours.
PS3 - ebay it now.

When re-selling a PS3 on eBay, don't make this mistake:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Playstation-3-PS...QQcmdZViewItem
Would you take pity on the poor sap who - apparently - set his 'Buy Now' price to $0.99 rather than his starting price?

If you need advice on when to sell the 2 hottest things on the market, you should just keep it as this price gouging thing isn't meant for you. hehe

man, i sympathise (sp?) with this guy^^^, but seriously, free market system. this is way more sony and nintendo's fault for not being able or whiling to produce enough of these to meet demand. what does this do?? well, it make more people hear about the hype, and want one. this allows them to keep selling units far into the future, rather then just a blitz on opening day.
can you blame them? i dont. its business. thats how stuff works. if we were to all live in the lovely land that is the former soviet union and maybe china things wouldnt be this way, but they...if i have to wait a little longer, or pay a little more for a video game, a video game (not bread or potatoes), so be it.
