What the hell kind of parents would sign a consent form so their 16 year old daughter could marry her 40 year old coach/teacher?

Before I comment, I'd like to see pics.
But I agree... how could the parents agree to this? Maybe the parents were a similar couple?

Did the reporter spy on them through the window or something?

I suppose another way of looking at it- would it have been better for her to run off with this guy? If the daughter was going to be with this guy one way or another, perhaps the best way they can make sure she is (somewhat) safe is to make sure they stay in her life.

This is eerily similar to the whole Mike Danton/Jefferson story. The agent/teacher is villified(rightfully so) but with what seems like a free pass being given to the parents. I remember watching the CBC deal on Jefferson's and being utterly amazed that the parents let happen what they did. And when it is all over they let their younger son attend a party over there etc. Like everything was okay. Back to current story, you've got to love the quote on AOL, "signing those consent forms was the hardest thing I did in my whole life, but we had to move on, it was going to kill us all." We had to move on????? They sound like they were letting her go to cheerleading camp. Not marry some 40 year old perv.

I have a 16 year old sister and my father and I would NEVER let his happen

Good on ya. Afterall, she is your property.
That said, WTF is wrong with that guy? If you're going to go full out perv - and I mean quit your job (and likely end your teaching career permanently) so you can marry and screw a 16 year old - at least make sure she is hot... Seriously!
All kidding aside, something is wrong with you if you're 40 and have to sink to that low of an age to find a companion.

Does anyone else think that the logo on his shirt looks like a person bending over, looking at the camera, with a bone sticking out of their ass?
Man... is it quitting time yet?
