Jays two-year deal with Rod Barajas

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a two-year deal with catcher Rod Barajas pending a medical, according to a report in the Toronto Sun.
The Texas Ranger free-agent's deal is reportedly worth just less than US$6 million.

Why Zaun turned down $6 million is beyond me.

I like the signing now I expect the next move for the Jays will be to sign or trade for a pitcher.

What a difference a good GM makes. Blue Jays and Raptors both on the way up thanks to good hirings at the GM spot. As Flames fans we can surely relate with the arrival of Sutter also being our rescue from the laughingstock category.

Ricciardi just goes out and gets things done and like everyone else I expect the remaining pieces of the puzzle to be put into place by an excellent manager.

This is a good signing, it will be interesting to see what Zaun gets ... he's rumored to be talking with Boston and NYY.

I can see why you walk away from that. Zaun seemed like a good guy, but at the end of the day he's about a .265 hitter good for about 10-13 home runs. Do you really dole out that type of scratch to a player like that?

He'll get it too. Not bad statistical numbers for a catcher...can switch hit. Brings good leadership to the table.

Actually he has great stat numbers for a catcher, in particular he is one of the few catchers who can actually succeed against right handed pitching, which is extremely rare amoung catchers.

90% of catchers bat right handed and have extreme splits.

I'm quite disappointed by the signing to be honest, this team is right handed laden as it is. We are going to have some really big problems against 75% of the teams who decide to roll out a RHP. We'll crush lefties, but when thats only 25% of your opponents.. the value is lost.

You end up with massive power hitters (see Troy Glaus) put up passable numbers vs. RHP and bomb LHP to raise his numbers up.
