Actually he has great stat numbers for a catcher, in particular he is one of the few catchers who can actually succeed against right handed pitching, which is extremely rare amoung catchers.
90% of catchers bat right handed and have extreme splits.
I'm quite disappointed by the signing to be honest, this team is right handed laden as it is. We are going to have some really big problems against 75% of the teams who decide to roll out a RHP. We'll crush lefties, but when thats only 25% of your opponents.. the value is lost.
You end up with massive power hitters (see Troy Glaus) put up passable numbers vs. RHP and bomb LHP to raise his numbers up.
