Good hiring...Petrino is a good coach...will be interesting to see what he can do with Vick and the Falcons.

Good move for the Cards, horrible move for Pittsburgh to let him interview with another team. The moment Cowher resigned they should've handed Whisenhunt the job on a platter. A seamless transition was sacrificed for a process which will land them an inferior coach anyway. Maybe they're shooting for a short term failure so they can try and lure Cowher back in a few years.

Cameron's done a really good job with the Chargers. We'll see how well he does without LT. I think he'll do pretty well.

Wow, teams waste no time at all in restocking the head coach positions!

Is there any reason why the NFL allows teams to make big movements and signings while the playoffs are still going? Wouldn't some teams still playing possibly be a little ticked that they don't get a fair shot at all the pickings and sort of get punished for winning??

Well if you made it to the conference championship game chances are you're probably not looking for a new coach.

NFL is a big time systems based game and the coach in the NFL has huge input in personell descisions. Head coaches in football are more like managers because a lot of them delgage the specifics of the games to their assistants and as a result the coach needs to know the systems, know his assistants so he can help get the right personnel in place. So it's not really a game where you can go too long without a head coach in place. Because without a head coach a team can't really be doing much of anything.

Jim Mora is the secondary coach for the Seahawks. Is that so he can be closer to the Washington team he so dearly wants to coach?

Would he (or could he) consider the Cowboys?

Do you mean Lane Kiffin the OC at USC?

If so I guess if the one OC turns you down you offer the job to the other OC.

Yep, OC at USC, and was an assistant at Jacksonville I think.

Youngest assistant coach ever in the NFL
youngest OC in NCAA Div I history
and now youngest HC in the NFL

man HC in the NFL at 31. That's kinda interesting ... HC in the NFL will be a whole new level of stress for that guy.

No, since he has ties to Seattle from growing up back there in the 70's, I thikn he jumped at the chance to be home.

Plus, he was going to be taking a year off otherwise...may as well pull in a paycheck and be living at home.

Obviously coaching the secondary is a pretty low profile job, which I think he's fine with for a year or two.

Successor to Holmgren down the road? Or at least a move up to OC in the next couple years? Maybe, but big if's there. As would be a move to the Washington job if/when it becomes free.

But for now it appears as just a job in his "home" city, instead of sitting out a year.

Well, defensive coordinator (at least that is what he was in SF). I could see the Holmgren succession if Holmgren was still the GM. When he gave up the GM was there any consideration to one day giving up coaching and becoming the GM again?

Good hire, they never should've had to make though.
