AlbertaCareers.com beta site.
Well it looks like someone has finally woken up and realized the need for an Alberta only jobsite, with a good web address. Should be interesting to see how many employers sign up, currently its free during the beta testing.
I wonder if the Flames will post their snack bar positions, I heard they are still looking to fill quite a few of them.

as am i. i've been hitting monster quite a bit lately, but either their quick apply thing doesn't work or the job market for IT in this city isn't as nuts as everything else. or then again maybe my resume just sucks

Right now it seems the only thing on the site is a posting for World Health Club. Anyone know when this might go live and be a bit more useful?

I've been thinking the same thing.
I think pay for IT positions has fallen way behind what it should be, so much so that I've bee thinking of a change.
I know the bubble could burst here, but does anyone have any advice about tapping into that more lucrative "oil field" type industry. I've heard there is a major shortage, but does anyone know of jobsites that a guy can search?
I've been told that you can pretty much show up and get a job many places, but going up "northish" without guarantees isn't really worth it when you have a family.

I have a friend who i went to school with in Alberta. He got a degree in IT. He moved to Houston and said he cannot afford to come back as they pay less then half for IT jobs in Calgary as they do in Houston.
Just some info for you. I am not in IT at all.

I have noticed this as well. Unless you want to work helpdesk I cannot find a whole lot out there. I am in IT as well and I think the worst thing about our line or work is that we are under appreceated for what we do so they are not willing to pay us for it. Imagine if the entire IT dept in a company called in sick......
Sorry for my little rant there.

I'm comfortable right now but you can't sit back on your laurels forever. Not like I have two cushy government jobs to slack off at

Looks like the site is getting noticed, even have an IT position listed, for Hemi-Cuda, here is the link: http://www.albertacareers.com/index...._job&post_id=5. I'm not sure what you do, but it looks like IT.
According to the main page they are still under beta for a few months and offering free listings to employers. Not a bad idea, have real users test the application. Good to see a homegrown solution.

Long name Crap results as I will never go to that site due to the advertisments.

Check out SI Systems, Hemi-Cuda. The only way to really make lots of money in IT in Calgary is to go freelance.

Depending on which area of IT you are in.
In August i was looking for a new job in .NET field, only a few months out of school/experience, and i was finding a bunch. Applied to 4 and got interviews in all of em, with most salaries 45-80K.
A good to place to look is the graduate job banks at UofC/Sait/mrc
