Last night was the Vote for Change stop here in Western North Carolina. Headlining was Pearl Jam with two other opening acts. I had never heard of the other two bands, so i never imagined running into the star of the Shawshank redemption who was moonlighting as a front man for Gob Roberts (hideous name IMO).

Anyhow, my office is about 50 feet from the door to the arena, with a lounge in between the two. I was heading outside for a break from my 4 walls and as I turned the corner to go through the lounge....standing there with someone else was the man himself. I did a double-take as most would, and he just started laughing and said hello.

Long story short, we talked for about 5 minutes, covering the recent flooding to his reason for being there. Nice enough fellow for sure, but way to extreme politically for my liking. His message was clear...remove Bush at any cost....because he is Bush. I would of liked to delve into it further with him, but it was niether the time nor the place for it, as he was getting ready to do a sound check.

He did ask me who I was voting for, and i replied i wasnt allowed to vote as a Green Card holder. He said who would you vote for if you could and i told him I would probably vote for Kerry at this point but for different reasons than himself. He seemed satisfied with that answer. I wished him luck and then continued on my path outside (sidestepping about 30 tons of band "trunks") never to see him again.

Just thought I would share the story and ask if anyone here has heard his band? He just didnt strike me as a "front man" kind of guy as he is extremely soft spoken.

Hasn't Tim Robbins been one of the more vocal anti-war celebrities? I don't beleive he is to soft spoken about politics, although I could be off base.

Also, Gob Roberts is a bad name. Robbins had a movie called Bob Roberts at one point, that is probably a spin off of that is some weird way.

No you're right, he is very vocal about his politics.....just in a rather "hushed" tone.

Thats what i meant.....that his speaking voice is so quiet i have a hard time seeing him as a front "rockin" kind of guy. Though i may be way off with tht assumption.

and to think you could have chatted him up about hockey...
Isn't Tim Robbins a huge hockey fan?

I would have said "I'd vote for which ever president gets the hockey lockout resolved quickest"

That's a cool story and a cool little interaction with him. I only ever see people at my lunch time food court; like Stephan Yelle, Ville Neimenen, Grant Pollack, where it doesn't seem right to disturb while they're chomping down on a big ole burger!

but he's a Rags fan, and a staunch union supporter. Probably wouldn't be a fun conversation.
