Default Is my new HDTV screwed? (pics)

K, I got a new TV for boxing day, and it had backlight leaking issues (blotchy black screens). Got a replacement tv, looks much nicer, but I'm noticing a vertical line in the middle of the screen, but not all the time.

It doesn't look like any kind of compression artifact or scaling artifact, and it's always in the exact same column on the TV. Doesn't matter which channel. Haven't seen it yet on an HD channel but it's tough to see in normal shows (though it's there), cartoons show it better.

Any ideas? I hate to lug this thing back to Future Shop again.

Here's all the pics I took:

Oops forgot to mention, it's an LG 42LC2D LCD TV.

Aw man, I don't want to return this. If I have to I'm giving up on LG and getting a Samsung.

Well that's unfortunate. Nothing like spending that kind of cash and getting this in return. I'm very close to picking up the higher end Samsung 40" with the 4000:1 ratio myself.

I knew I should have went with the 40" Bravia that Costco had on for $1899 when I had the chance

Is this the Samsung?

Ok thanks.. I hate having to go through all this crap. I guess that's the risk when trying to find a great deal.

Actually, it's their higher end model. That one has 3000:1 and this one is 4000:1 http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/prodde...37&catid=24558

Bravia would also be a good choice, but it depends on how much you're willing to spend for higher quality models I've seen the Westinghouse ones getting good reviews for the price.

Sorry to haer you are having problems...FWIW...I can recommend this model from this online shop in TO...if picture quality+price>bells and whistles you will love this TV (if you don't mind a little extra work getting it setup)

Hm, not sure if I want plasma since gaming will be a major aspect of what the TV will be for. And afaik burn in is still an issue (as they use an all white screen to help remove burn in which reduces the TV life doesn't it?)

EDIT: Lol oh and 50" is out of the question, 42" was almost too big for the boss

EDIT2: Thanks for the suggestion though, that is a very nice price for something like that.

Also, be sure that it will go to 1080p (the Bestbuy site says it only has 1080i...but they are often wrong) as there is no point in dropping that kind of $ and not having the best resolution level

Nope I don't think so (CNET agrees) I think that Plasma burn was an early-model problem...I use mine for vids all the time no problems at all...

the only downside to this particular TV is its limited inputs (3 customizable ports)...and no tuner/speakers (but who needs those anyway?)...

Also they may have last years 42 in model left over (same TV, just a little heavier and has a 2 year warranty) for a VERY good price (like ######edly good)

I have that one. So far I'm pretty happy with it. When I bought it from Bestbuy a couple months ago I got $700 off.

I would see it in person though before deciding on getting it. When I first got mine I noticed some small motion blur while playing NHL 07. But I was also looking for any type of blur and now that I'm no longer looking for it I dont even notice it.

It's 1080i. I would have liked to have gotten one with 1080p but I didnt find a Samsung with 1080p that was in my price range($2000-). But 1080i is good enough for me.

Be carefull, that Plasma TV is only 852X480. An EDTV, not HDTV.

Every big LCD I get interested in turns out to have problems. Just going by memory but the Sharp Aquos has banding. The Sony 2500? has backlight issues. The Samsungs have cloudiness. Maybe everybody I hear on the internet is to picky but I'm waiting.

not sure what you paid but London Drugs, had the Panasonic 42" plasma for $1999. Anything over 32" in LCD just tends to struggle with motion and good black level.
