Looks as if Martin is going to try and push a confidence vote on a resolution he'd probably otherwise lose. High risk position to take givin the situation...

I don't think any party is in any condition to go back to the polls so soon. I saw on TV the Liberals and NDP are somewhere like 2.5 - 3 million in debt, while the Conservatives are 1.5 and the Bloc are breaking even. Not a good war chest to be going into an election with.

That said, I would love to see the Liberals turfed too. But then, the stupid electorate would probably give them a majority again...

I just got a lovely little e-mail from Jason Kenney trumpeting the fact that Harper has made him Opposition Deputy House Leader.

The terminology is slightly confusing, but I think Harper is Opposition Leader, isn't he? That would leave Kenney as second in command. Yeah, I don't like the Liberals either, but Kenney is just hopeless.

I don't think there is any question that a Liberal majority would be the result of another election. I could see many fence-sitters and Liberal non-votes come out. I think some would also switch their original votes so the country doesn't have to do an election all over again, again.

It's a moot point.

I think the Conservatives were just pretending to support the sub-amendment by the Bloc in order to scare the feces out of the Libs a little bit. A little bit of brinkmanship. They never intended to support a motion that contained the phrase, "as demanded by the Premier of Quebec."

The changes made this afternoon were a bit of a victory for both sides, and a bit of a loss. Maybe that's the way government should work eh? Everybody has some input. I'll be interested to see how the Conservatives' amendment plays out later this month. I watched it all live on CPAC while attempting to write my thesis....under the assumption that it would be so boring that I'd be able to concentrate on my work.
