I'm in a situation where I just found out my big Dell SQL server is backordered, and I want to build a smaller server to bridge the time gap.

I'm thinking about a dual Opteron (or Xeon if I have to I guess), but finding parts for this kind of thing is proving difficult. I'm going to do RAID with SATA, so finding SCSI isn't a big issue.

Anyone have any ideas of places that might have a dual opteron board, processors, and a case/ps that'll handle it in stock in town? I'd REALLY like to get this up and running today. Memory Express only has one Opteron processor in stock and the motherboard they have is a bit old.

TIA

pro data in the NE is the only other place that may have what you are looking for. Not sure of the phone number, but I think their website is pro-data.com

I think your screwed Photon, Pro-Data dosen't stock it. Checked with Ingrammicro, I could get you a nice server from Compaq/HP, but the raw components aren't in stock

Oh well, worth a try... Sometimes Calgary drives me crazy! If this was Vancouver I'd have a server sitting in front of me right now ^_^

Hey, I like Dell servers!

I think I might just get a normal single processor PC and load it up with lots of RAM and a RAID 5 SATA caching controller...

It's going to be an SQL server for a short time, but after that it's going to be just an office intranet and file server.

If your looking for a white box Pro-Data does some nice work based around an Intel server chasis, and they're pretty resonably price. I could also get a Compaq/HP server in for you by the next day (Thats my job)

I'm not a Dell fan, in fact my job is to basically remove Dells from my clients environments. I like Compaq/HP servers because of thier good reliability and thier reasonable pricing model.

But thats just me

There's a company in Edmonton that does lots of dual cpu work, mainly for graphic artists, cadd and what not. I'll get their names and get back to you.
