Default The Tragically Hip at Mac Hall

anyone else see any of the shows? Went last night and got a spot about 15 feet from the stage dead centre. Great view of Gordie the whole night, is there anyone who looks like they're having more fun at work than this guy? They played a ton of stuff from the new album, plus some of the classics including 38 years old, New Orleans, Blow at High Dough, etc. A great show, Mac Hall is a great venue as well.

Yeah, I went last night. We were about 2/3rds of the way back but could see everything. Mac Hall ballroom is a great place to watch a band, you can pretty much see everything no matter where you are. I was a little disappointed they didn't play hundredth meridian but I really wanted to hear Music at Work, so it was good they played that one. Not nearly as crowded as I thought it would be, though it sold out there was plenty of room in the back. Standing for 2 hours kind of sucks though...

am i the only one who thinks the "classic" Tragically Hip songs suck the most? I'm a fan of the band, but everytime songs like New Orleans and Blow at High Dough come on, I turn the station. There are some much better songs from them which don't get as much airplay and those are the ones I really appreciate.

Btw, the more I listen to the new album, the better it gets.

###. The new albums are better. The old songs are dead to me. Radio killed the old songs by playing them every 10 minutes to meet CANCON quotas.

the songs have definitely suffered from overplay (why is it that radio stations play the same bloody songs over and over and over.....?)

I think my favourite song from last night was Gift Shop.

yeah I think there is a subtle distinction between a song that sucks and a song that is overplayed to the point of being unlistenable (although many songs are both)

some of the older Hip stuff, while not exactly virtuoso songwriting , was actually pretty good compared to what else was getting regular 'rock radio' airplay in 1989

I agree with what is said. I got int the Hip around 88/89 and loved them to death. Saw them a bunch of times. But now when I hear some of the stuff from "Up to Here" I am sick of it. I remember how much I liked it when it was fresh, but now it is definitely overplayed.

The last few times I saw the Hip I always hoped they would play something from their original EP, but they never do. I think Small Town Bringdown was the first Hip song i heard.

They played 38 years old?? They haven't played that song in like 15 years.

EDIT: Just checked the setlists... they're also playing Fiddler's Green on this tour!! They've never played that song live before.

Yeah, I was pretty excited when I heard it (38 years old). I was pretty sure I hadn't ever heard it played live (I've seen them more than a few times, but my memory is getting worse as I get older)
