Default EA's Battlefield 2142 - Watches you surf?

Wow, EA is low but this is just crazy. I realize they want to have in game ads (gee a Chrysler Neon ad in futuristic 2142), but they'll look at your IP and "other anonymous information" to decide what ads to send you.

The demo for this was bad IMO and I wasn't going to buy it anyway, but here's another good reason not to.

I wonder what happens when you buy it, open it, read this, then try to return it?

This is probably going to be the norm now. Video game companies are already selling billboard space for advertising. Just another way to push ad's towards people. Fun Fun.

The other side is, theoretically, this was supposed to do away with $10/month that you pay to play on-line for MMORPGs.

EA has just gone to ****. Ah, the good old days of BF 1942. Now, THAT was a good game.

Isn't this pretty much the norm for the internet anyway?

I notice a relationship between the types of websites I frequent and the types of ads that appear. For example, I started getting a lot more ads for "job finding" websites when I was looking for a new job a few months ago.

Yeah it's more and more common.. though I expect it since ads are what fund a lot of free content on the net. This is a game I paid for though.

Just cause it's the norm doesn't mean I have to like it!

It appears as if its also in Swat4 accoring to some screen shots.

I am wondering if FutureShop/BestBuy/EB etc would take the game back if you decided you didnt want it after they included it.

Which is a good time as any to bring up the time when a Canucks fan started a tread on the off-topic board about how we were a bunch of losers for having internet dating service ads all over Calgarypuck.

He didn't realize those ads were chosen specifically for him determined by what sites he visited previously.

EA seems to be saying that only the IP is used to determine if and how many times you have seen a specific ad (this from random postings on other forums)... Which isn't all that bad. Though the wording of the paper makes it seem they can use pretty much any info they want to as long as they stay anonymous.

I still don't like it. How about reducing the price of the game for those that agree to see ads?

Am I the only one that doesn't give a rats ass about this stuff? It's not like EA is stealing your credit card information.

I will agree that lowering the price on games would be decent.
