I'm hoping in 5-6 years I'll have made enough money to enter semi-retirement. I would like nothing more than to move to some obscure little city in the Okanagon like Vernon or Penticton and work part time in some kind of landscaping type job. It's just so slow out there, I love it.

When the housing boom peaked a couple of months ago I started looking at houses back in Winnipeg. With how much my house went up I could have bought a house back home for cash and been mortgage free. Of course the downside is I would be living in Winnipeg.
Of course I then looked at what my current job would pay in Winnipeg- $10 an hour less than what I currently make. $1600 per month or about $1100 after tax in income difference; which happens to be the exact amount of my mortgage here.
Funny part of all this; people have asked if I looked at house prices in Winnipeg; and if I had considered moving back. I explained the difference in income, and their only response was "but you'd be mortgage free."
But to answer the question in the thread; I might move to Seattle, or maybe Mexico to retire.

Yeah, somewhere in the Okanagan or Crowsnest would be nice, not until I'm older though. Anywhere East of Calgary is depressing as hell.
Pheonix, AZ
Sante Fe, NM
Denver, CO
Seattle, WA
I'd be happy in any of those places.

Probably New England. Connecticut is supposed to be really nice.
Portland, Oregon, too.

well i'm from the Okanogan (town called Lumby, not that anyone here has heard of it) and i'd move back in a heartbeat if there were jobs available, preferrably in Vernon or Kelowna. however for a large city, Calgary is the best that i've been to. for a large metropolitan area there isn't anywhere else i'd like to be than here

Calgary or Winnipeg. I've wanted to move to Calgary since I was like 12 and I lived in Winnipeg for a year going to school and liked it and would move back if the right opportunity came up. I would probably move anywhere out West though except maybe Edmonton. I think I would eventually get annoyed of hearing about the Oilers all the time.
I cant see myself ever leaving Canada though as I'm too proud to be Canadian. I was born in Canada, I want my kids to be Canadian, and I want to be buried in Canada when I die.

I grew up on the B.C. coast, lived in Calgary a long time and enjoyed it a lot, but when the time came to pick where I really wanted to live, I came back to the coast.

Tokyo.
I would also like to have a holiday house in Thailand or Hawaii (the latter if I manage to earn enough, Thailand is the backup plan).
I also want a little place in Canmore for access to the mountains in winter.

I moved from Calgary to Edson.
Small town living has turned out to be grande!
however, if I had to move...It would be back to another larger centre.
Would love to live in Las Vegas for my retirement. I want to work as a dealer in a casino.
Secondly, I would chose Portland Oregon..Clackamas to be exact. Perfect weather all year long, close to the ocean. Its great!

I don't like in Cowtown, but I like water, so Halifax or Sydney NS is great (the two places I've really lived)
Montreal is amazing I could definately live there
Ottawa, or Calgary would also make that list.
Superflyer, you'd be suprised how many jobs there are in NS at the moment, we're on the brink of an employment crisis. I work in trying to curb the inpending need for employees. The NS gov't actually has advertising out now about getting people into the jobs we need.

Ive lived in B.C's lower mainland and currently in Kelowna the cost of living is not cheap and they dont pay great out here for what you do unless your a doctor. Places here are great to visit but im an Alberta boy and proud to move back to the city I truly love
moving back to Calgary on October 13th!
