Heath Ledger as The Joker?
The Squel to the only Batman Movie is now titled "The Dark Knight" and Heath Ledger is confirmed in the role of the Joker.

Just title but I just can't see Ledger as being that good in this role. It's too bad Gary Oldman is already cast, he would have been perfect.

I'd have agreed with you, but ever since I saw Lords of Dogtown and Brokeback Mountain I think Heath has some huge range in the roles he can play. I think he'll pull it off well.

I would love to have seen Willam Dafoe play the Joker. He is a great actor and has the perfect face for the role i believe. But because he was in spiderman he was never considered. Tim Roth would have been another great choice. I heard Johnny Knoxville was also considered.
I wonder if Heath will use his Australian accent as the top level bad guys in American movies can never have North American accents, they have to be British/German/French/Chinese/Russian/Arabic etc.

I am not looking forward to this movie. I love the Joker as a character and I can only see this being another Jack Nicholson like debacle. Not that I have anything against Heath Ledger, he is a fantastic actor. The problem I have is that the Joker and a PG-13 movie are simply incompatible. The Joker is one of comic books' greatest villains because of his purely evil and maniacle way. This will never be adequately captured in a Hollywood made film. Too bad.

^^Hrm, I somewhat tend to agree with you man, but still, the first Batman movie by Nolan completely exceeded my expectations, and I'm more than willing to give this one the benefit of the doubt.

For some reason I think he would have pulled off the Joker perfectly, but i think ledger will do fine.

if Batman Begins didn't reinvent the "dark knight" for the big screen i would have agreed with you. as long as they keep the movie within the realms of the first it should be awesome

Yep, Batman Begins exceeded all of my expectations, I'm totally looking forward to Dark Knight. Now if only they could ditch that no-talent Katie Holmes...

This is really old news and Ledger and Nolan have said this is going to have nothing to do with Jack Nicolson
No Jack + More Clockwork Orange they said. "I'm singing in the rain" (beat) "just singing in the rain" (stab)

I think that California's Senator would be a great Joker!
When he get's caught by Batman he could say some neat thing referencing his return!
Batman is my fovorite Comic Superhero. I believe it was also the best live action comic yet to be produced. Acting/storyline/cronological order. I was really happy about the cast. Michael Caine! Christian Baile! GARY FRICKIN' OLDMAN (Sober I might add), That March of the Penguin/Andy's friend/Seven guy that is everywhere (let's face it he is everywhere- even driving Miss Daisy! So of course he is in this.) Morgan Freeman! The writing was great - the dialouge was natural and the Batmobile was really cool. It even came in BLACK!

Websense at work is preventing me from finding you a link for this but Mrs. Cruise has already been booted from the next installment of Batman.

The only source of that is this vague quote from Jett.

Hey, I think Heath Ledger is a great actor.. but as the Joker, it's just difficult for me to see him pulling it off. It's an inspired choice if nothing else. Hopefully this movie is as good as Batman Begins was, the only Bat movie worth watching.

I believe in the Pony Power

I have a hard time imaging Ledger as the joker as well, but to be honest, that doesn't bug me too much. As someone else noted, up until this point the Joker has not really been captured properly on film. Jack did a good job but he didn't come close to capturing the pure evil that is the joker. At this point I'm open to seeing how a guy like Ledger handles the role...

Phil Seymour Hoffman rumoured to be penguin.
I'm not holding out any hope, just like the last time.
