The Oil are ready
The Oil landed in Vancouver early this morning with the anticipation of a new season. Oil – Canucks to kick it off. Only fitting as the two clubs have seen a lot of each other, meeting in the first round of last year’s play-offs.
Once again the Oil start the season with high expectations in a very much-improved Howe Conference. Leading the way for the Oil this season will be Martin behind the mask. In front of Martin a very solid mixture of good hockey players and the youth to provide the enthusiasm. Such stars as Iggy, Lecavalier, Samsanov and Doan are expected to lead the offence and guide the youngsters such as Carter, Zherdev, Bergereon and Weiss.
Acquired last year at the trading deadline team leader Iggy had this to say about the offense; “This is a very young and very talented group. We expect big things this year, I have been lined up with Doan and Zherdev for the pre-season and we seemed to click fairly well. You have to pay attention when Nick has the puck because you never know when its coming, next thing you know you have the puck. And who would not want to play with Shane. Its good to know you are not depended on for all the teams success, with Vinny, Carter and Samsanov they should hold their own on the top line. And Bergeron, Morovoz, and Roberts to play down the bottom spots, with Weiss, Plekanec and Upshall waiting in the minors.
The D stacked with Regehr, Bouwmeester, Hamrlik, Leetch, and Jackman. Karel Rachunek find himself playing a depth role this season with Babchuck, Malec and St. Jauques waiting in the minors. We are looking forward to the young tandem of Bouwmeester and Regehr, we believe they should be a top-pairing group for years to come.
The Oil also come into this season with the depth. Something the Oil never had last year.
First test Summer Tourney Finalist – Vancouver with 2 games in the first 4 for the oil.
This should be a good test for us early; the Canucks have a few young scorers that we will have to find away to contain. Such as Prucha, Kunitz, and Williams. And Yanic can find ways to get open. So offensively they are a fast team with lots of enthusiasm.. Defensively they have Zubov to contain, we feel we have a good chance to be succefull if we can keep him off the score sheet. And the key to tonight’s game. …Biron once again. LET THE oil SEASON BEGIN…………WHOOO!
