Default N.Y. City school gives detention to parents who get children to school late

Under the new rule at the Manhattan School for Children, parents who don't drop off their children by 8:25 a.m. have to pick up late slips from the principal's office and go to the auditorium to serve 20 minutes of detention with them.

More bad parents!

How many CP parents would have to spend detention at their kids school?

exactly ... i would ask the school board to show me proof of jurisdiction. now, if it was a private school, they may have some leverage, but otherwise i may not tell them to f'off, but i certainly wouldnt go sit in the corner like they said.

mind you, i dont get my kids to school late either, but thats not the point.

You don't say FU to a school that you have to apply to get your kid into and that costs probably at least $10K per year.

I'd say: "bring it on".

This is ridiculous.

The Manhattan School for Children is NOT a public school. Or so I thought.

Public schools in NYC don't even have names...they are id'd as PS# XXX.

I wouldn't be surprised if calling it public was a mistake.

Either way, that's an abuse of the school's power, IMO. Just because the rest of the public school system sucks doesn't make it ok to punish parents for having busy lives. That's seriously weak.
