Amazing Race Thoughts
Anybody else watch? General thoughts from the first episode...
* The Phil is taking no prisoners this year...
* We might just have a reincarnation of the "Frat Boys" from last season...
* There are some good-looking women on the show this season (My personal favorite would be Kellie)...
* Good to see some teams thrown into a situation they couldn't handle off the bat instead of babying:baby: them like in past seasons...
* That's got to be tough to do on one leg...
* And to piggy-back on that, why not use it to your advantage to sit at the front of the plane? That was a great move!
That's about all I can remember off the top of my head. I'd be interested to know what you guys/gals thought...

"Do muslims believe in Buddha?"
"I don't know..." They truly are the stereotypical cheerleaders it seem.
"I can't help but feel dissappointed when I look at my daughter" Wow buddy. Your daughter has a university education and seems a very decent person. Disappointed in her because she's a lesbian? Get over it already.
Anyways looks like some decent viewing this year. Some teams that obviously look like they can work well together and other teams that seemed ready to self destruct in the first 30 minutes driving to the airport.
And what is with the single moms? Yeesh bitching about someone with an artificial leg preboarding? First of all who the heck cares if they get on the plane 2 minutes before you? It's not as if they told everybody to sit down while they got off the plane and grabbed a head start.
But as for needing to pre-board. I don't know. I don't have an artificial leg. I don't know if once at her seat she prefers to take it off (needing a little extra time preferably without an audience) or if it's simply she doesn't want to be jostled around while boarding the plane. Either one is a perfectly valid reason IMO. It's not as if she was playing the "I'm disabled" card when it suited her as the single moms were implying.

The single black mothers comment...
"The Chinese will love us because they LOVE Forrest Gump"?
WTF was that? Engage the mouth before the brain?

That FLOORED me. I couldn't believe he had the audacity to say that with his daughter sitting beside him. What an ass. He couldn't even say that she was gay. Wow. What year is it?

Me too. I had to double-check with my girlfriend to make sure I heard it right. Its a shame that attitudes like that still exist in this world.

But they did. They told the one cabbie, "Its an emergency" and pointed to her leg, then the cabbie said OK. So they have already played the card.
But I don't have a problem with it (unless they start whining when it doesn't work, which I don't think they will do).

Perhaps. I had sort of interpreted that as when they found the hydraulic leak.
But had they used it to gain an advantage I have no real problem with it either...it's a race for a million dollars. You do what you legally can to win. And when it came to any of the tasks there was certainly no whining. And really that wall climbing task was not an easy one for her I'm sure. I'd be surprised if we see much whining from the first woman with an artificial leg to complete the Hawaiian ironman.

A couple more thoughts that ran through my head while sitting in class.
*The single mothers seem a little out of their league on the race. They could really surprise me but it's seems like they saw Cirie on Survivor and thought, let's do that but for The Amazing Race. I just think the challenges might get the best of them in the long run.
* I'm not defending Duke at all because I don't agree that you should be disappointed in an offspring because they're "gay" but he might just be disappointed that he can never have grandchildren and not the fact that his daughter is a lesbian. I, of course, don't know the whole situation (whether there are other siblings) but I know my parents would be a little disappointed if their bloodline ended with me and my brothers.
* The phrase "We could hold a conversation with a door-knob"... Yeah, each other!
We'll see if anything else pops into my head in the next class...

Its unfortunate the Muslim team were the first ones kicked off. I was looking forward to seeing their interactions with some of the other teams, especially the cheerleaders that asked each other if Muslims believe in Buddah (I'm amazed at how someone could ask that).
This is the first Amazing race I've seen that doesn't have the token grandma-grandpa/old couple team. I kept waiting for them to be introduced, but I guess they decided to skip that team this year. Perhaps they intend to include more physical challenges this time around.

Bah. Lesbians aren't infertile they are lesbians. Nothing prevents them from getting pregnant and using their own genes in the process.

A little of topic, but what exactly would stop her from having kids? Lots of lesbian couples get invitro.

I was laughing at the two moms when they were struggling to climb the wall..
"It's too hard.. I can't do it.."
Holy crap, just try to figure out a way to do it and quit crying the same damn thing. Those two irritated me and I want them gone! I only caught the very end last night.

My guess is that he isn't really disappointed in his daughter. You need to be unique to get on the show, and you need to have a good story/hook to get on the show. My guess is that in order to get picked for the Amazing Race, the Dad and Daughter decided to make a big deal about her Lesbianism. Just a hunch, but it is possible that he really is disappointed.

Oh I fully agree that they can have children! I just personally don't think it's the same thing as a heterosexual couple having a child. I don't even know if that's the case. It's all just speculation to get the conversation flowing.
I also agree with Kermitology, the moms were starting to get a little annoying. The southern couple though are frickin' hilarious!

Well a pretty interesting leg last night that takes the teams into Outer Mongolia. Everyone seemed to really struggle at that roadblock one way or another, whether it was getting there, with the horses, or with the tasks. I don't think I ever saw a leg where every team had some type of problem, that held them up. I think this edition is definitely a bit more challenging than previous editions.
The disabled girl melted down for no reason whatsoever, maybe that hydrolic leak in the leg is starting to take a toll on her. That other couple is typical with the drama queen and the interlorant boyfriend who won't shut up. The Kentuky red neck couple is actually surprising me in the fact that they're getting around reasonably well considering they've probably lived their entire lives in the same 50 mile radius. If they don't get stuck in the mud they probably end up in the top 5. The Miss USA girls had that thing if they don't lose their stupid hat. If those Asian brothers could ever figure out to buy and read a map they might actually get somewhere.

I also noticed the lack of the obligatory old couple for this round. Guess they decided to cast 2 teams of babes this time for the ratings. (Miss USA Team = Wow!)
I wonder what happens to Sarah when her leg runs out of fluid - do they allow a mechanical stop? If a Racer got hurt they'd get medical help, so would a mechanic be too much to ask? Not sure.
Did anyone else's CTV feed crap out at about 9:40? I missed most of the riding horses roadblock, including the lost helmet incident....

I must admit that the cruel ******* in me wants to see those male models stay in that race long enough that they go to Amsterdam and the challenge involves shooting up on Heroin and than riding a bike 2 miles.
It's nice that they battled their drug addiction, but they clamour about like they should have been given an award for it. You never should have been a drug addict in the first place.

Those male models make me laugh.. When they were talking, the darker fellow was sitting behind the other one with the Zoolander look on his face. He looks like such a ######!
