That trip through mongolia is pretty crazy. It's amazing that places that desolate still exist in this bustling world of ours. Oh, the power of perception.

caught it on OLN once in a while i think - mcgregor's got a huge beard!
that looks like a lot of fun, probably not a bank-breaker when it comes to vacations either, go through - say - western canada with a bike, camping gear and time.
as i recall in calgary he had two accidents, that's kinda wierd...

Blast! I spoiled myself by creating this thread as I did not know they went through Calgary. I'm just over half done now as they've left Mongolia and are heading into the Road of Bones.

Saw it when it was on. Great show. Loved seeing the cultures as he crossed asia. Ewen sure had some "balls" eating anything they put in front of him. Their are a few assuming bits coming up on the road of bones if I remember correctly.

Argg, that that bites. I have to sympathize with you though as the Calgary/alaska Episode was the very first show I say. But It's probably the funniest and wierdest thing about the entire series. The fact McGregor refers to The Calgary Stampede as a Fun Fair is pretty priceless.
The show is fantastic and it is far better than the book.

I watched this show about 6 months ago and loved it. The road of bones portion is crazy. I loved watching the cameraman and all the bad luck he had.

Good series. Some pretty tough riding on the Road of Bones. They breeze through North America in 1 or 2 episodes if I remember right. I don't blame them. It just isn't that interesting to see mile after mile of well demarkated blacktop after everything they have seen in the areas of the former USSR.

I had to buy this after reading up about this.... EM is one of my favorite actors, but that aside, the world travel alone looks amazing.
Jiri, Amazon thanks you!

Amazon.ca is your best bet. It's only like $5 or so for shipping unless you somehow hit $39 at which point it's free.
This DVD isn't released in the US for some reason so availability is quite limited through traditional channels I would guess.

Yeah, I saw comercials for this and totally forgot about it and after hearing what everyone has to say I just ordered it from Amazon.
Total came to 26.75 which is about a quarter more than you'd pay at a store (it's only $20 but you have to pay some shipping).
But if you want to order something else you can save yourself the $5 shipping.
Anyway, I look forward to seeing this.

You want to see desolate, now this is desolate. For those liking motorcycle movies or even not, there is one at the Calgary Film Festival on Sept.24 at 7PM. This guy even did his own filming. It's called "Riding Solo To The Top Of The World". I like riding solo myself. It may be your only chance to catch it. Here is the trailer.

I had a nice little trip today. Rode the Queen of Burnaby across to Comox. Took the Island Highway to Campbell River and headed west to Gold River. 100 kil. each way of twisty well paved road, sparse traffic and no cops, a fast and sporty bike and met a few other riders led to great ride for the day totaling about 360 kilometers. I was worn out but happy. I've made some long trips lasting a couple of weeks but the energy required for something like these two movies can only be done by being in great physical condition.

It sounds interesting, but I have a question. Is this a reality show that follows the actual Ewan McGregor around to all these places? Or is it a fictional show where McGregor plays some character?

Reality show. Ewan McGregor, a good friend of his, and a camera man ride 3 bikes across Europe from England to Siberia - then across North America from Alaska to New York.

We have two friends from Germany that have been travelling over 2 years on motorcycles. They have been all through Africa, then up through Arabia to India. I think they are next going on to NZ and AUST. I think sponsors are helping with costs, and a documentary will be made.
Here is their web-site (in German):

Click "Karte" to see where they have been.
