' Magic Man's ' son an Islander
ISLES ACQUIRE NILSSON

Robert Nilsson talks to reporters after being informed of his move to the Island.
UNIONDALE, NY - Robert Nilsson was acquired late Thursday evening from the Montreal Canadiens along with defenceman Brent Sopel in exchange for Todd White and prospect Marc-Andre Bernier.
The trade winds were relentless for the past month surrounding Todd White, and on Thursday a deal was finally struck between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders.
Robert, son of former NHLer Kent Nilsson of the Calgary Flames, had a better than expected reaction when told he had been moved from a Stanley Cup contender to... well, the New York Islanders.
"Pre-season projections are fun to read and all, but the game is played on the ice," Nilsson said. "They definitely have a younger team over there, but that means I'll get a bigger chance to succeed, and hopefully get placed in a role with more responsibility. I'm looking forward to it."
Todd White, who was expected to lead the Islanders this season, has thus far had a tough time in the pre-season failing to register a point after five games despite anchoring the top line.
Brent Sopel is expected to fill in the 6th spot on the blueline signalling the pending demotion of Kevin Schaeffer to Bridgeport.
"Nilsson has loads of talent and fits in with what we're trying to build here," Head Coach Larry Robinson said. "I certainly won't be surprised at all if he really makes a name for himself this coming season."
