THRASHERS BEAT FLYERS 5-2 TO IMPROVE TO 2-1-1
The Atlanta Thrashers beat the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday Night 5-2, to improve their record to 2-1-1 in the preseason. Mattias Norstrom had a goal and an assist, while Scott Walker scored 2 goals for the Thrashers. Andrew Cassels and Radek Martinek also scored for the Thrashers while the Flyers got 2nd period goals from Janne Niinimaa and Niklas Sundstrom.
The story of the game seemed to be the first unit for the Thrashers. The 1st line as well as the top defensive pairing (Walker, Forsberg, Sullivan, Norstrom and White) had a combined 3 goals, 3 assists and a plus 15 rating.
"Our first unit tonight was absolutely dominant. Norstrom and White were solid out their and played and unbelievable game for us. Up front it was the first line tonight that stepped up. Scott scored 2 big goals for us and what can you say about Peter, he's impressed every game he's played for us. It was great to see us take over the game in the 3rd period after they came back a little in the 2nd. Scott's 2nd goal was pretty much the game and we were dominant in the 3rd. I'm pleased with the effort tonight overall. Our powerplay needs to get a little better though for us to win games in the regular season but i'm thrilled with the work ethic of our team tonight." - GM Neil Sutaria
The Thrashers conclude their preseason vs the Colorado Avalanche on September 29th.
