No Hitter Watch
Nats pitcher Ramon Ortiz has a no hitter through 8 innings vs the Cards. I know I just jinxed him.

Hopefully Sportsnet picks up the feed for the top of the 9th.
Also, amazing to think it has been 2 1/2 years since the last no hitter was thrown. The last one in the AL was in 2002...

To make it even better Ortiz hits a home run in the bottom of the 8th, I am guessing its his first home run.

Top of the 9th underway...Ortiz should face Aaron Miles, Chris Duncan, and Pujols.

Its not like Ramon Ortiz of all people actually deserved a no hitter. But that was damned close.

And then he lost the shutout and a chance at a complete game in quick succession.
Ouch.

Anibal Sanchez of the Florida Marlins just threw a no-no. 4 BB, 6 K, 103 pitches. First rookie since 2001 to accomplish it.

Yup, you beat me to it Jiggy!

The previous no-hitter in the majors was a perfect game by Arizona's Randy Johnson, who beat Atlanta 2-0 on May 18, 2004. The prior no-hitter by a rookie was by Bud Smith of St. Louis, who beat San Diego 4-0 on Sept. 1, 2001.
I understand that Caberrara made an error? Anyone see it? Was it truly an "error", or was it aided?
Anyways, I am not discounting Sanchez's feat...he was part of the BoSox trade for Beckett/Lowell, no? Also Hanley Ramirez. Hanley's had a great season...especially for one of my fantasy teams.
Cheers.

Is it just me or was that final out a REALLY close play at first. The short-stop kinda double clutched a bit before he threw it. Dude was obviously out but would've be interesting how they would have ruled that if that runner had beat it out.

I thought he was actually safe. But on a close play like that, with a no-hitter in the balance, the ump had to call him out. I didn't see Byrnes put up a fight either. If he was safe though, I'd have to assume it would have been ruled an infield single.

I didn't see it but considering that Cabrerra is a horrible fielder and that I haven't heard any talk of the error on sports shows I am guessing it was legit.

Well considering the dudes name is Anna belle the least the world owes him is a no hitter for what he probably has had to put up with.

8.0 IP, Chris Young is pitching a No hitter for the Padres vs. the Pirates.
Its on channel 27 right now.
Its with the Pirates broadcast team, so it is quite amusing to get the "history of the no-hitter" and how many times they can attempt to jinx him by mentioning no hitter in an inning.

Yeah, I was watching that game and it looked like having to bat in the bottom of the 8th used up what ever was left in the tank for Young. At one point in time I think he had thrown 48 pitches to get the first 16 hitters out as he was perfect at that point in time.
