It's been 4 years, and I still get Moxiemares
I am sure most of you don't know what a Moxiemare is. Some of you may have Walmartmares or Officemares or Earlmares. Either way, it's all the same. Dreaming about work!
I used to have a lot of work related dreams when I worked at Moxie's. We would call those Moxiemares. I worked there for about 4-5 years. I went from dishwasher to Kitchen Manager. I quit in 2002, but since then. I was regularly getting Moxiemares once to twice a month. Which was fine. But it's been 4 years now since I stepped foot into a kitchen setting like Moxie's. But I still get dreams of myself working my ass off, sweating, getting burnt, getting stressed..... crashing on the line (a term used in kitchen lingo meaning getting slammed with orders in the kitchen). The dreams are never good because I am very upset in my dream and can really feel it. I have no idea what I am doing back there in my dreams. I even had one dream where it was so bad, I knew in my dream it must have been another Moxiemare. I yelled in my dream to wake up. And I woke up, just like that.
Do you guys still dream of work regularly? Even from a job you quit a while ago? I really don't like these Moxiemares, and I want them to stop. I don't know how to supress any of this.

LOL, I used to work in the sulphur industry, and we used to make 15t batches of liquid sulphur and bentonite clay.
Well, the process of starting and stopping the valves that fed the particular products into the batch tank was pretty monotonous, and all manual, IE, no alarms or anything unusual to indicate that you overshot it or something, other than the fact that you might have a huge spill of product on the floor (not good)
Anyway, we'd do like 15 batches on a 12hr shift, and since it was a fertilizer product, we'd be working from march to early june, straight through with no days off, so you would be pretty much a zombie through it all.
Anyway, there would be lots of times in the spring or afterwards, I'd be sitting at home, zoning out, or drifting off to sleep when I'd suddenly bolt up, and try to run out because 'I left the sulphur running' or some other stupid thing.
Always caught myself before I got to the door though, it was totally subliminal....
I can laugh about it now, but man, when I think of my mental state back then....

Other than helping out friends who still own restaurants every once in a while, I haven't worked my old pizza job since 1998.
The nightmares are fewer now, but I still have the odd one.

I can't really speak from experience, however I did learn a little bit about re-occurring nightmares in a few Psychology classes I took.
From what I gather, the time you spent at Moxie's wasn't favourable and you probably suppressed your dissatisfaction with it at the time and that is why it is coming out through your dreams even years later.
Do not try to supress anything! This almost always has the adverse affect. In fact, many theorize that dreams are suppressed memories. I would come to terms with your discontent of the situation rather than just trying to deny or ignore your dreams. However, I was told the trick to combatting the dreams is to realize an appropriate ending. Imagine telling off your boss or just walking out of there or whatever seems appropriate to the situation, any kind of ending. Since it is re-occuring and you recognize when it is happening, try to carry through the ending.
It sounds hokey, I know, but try it.

I'm a commodity/energy trader and after events this with a Calgary trader losing $6 billion for his commodity this week it's stressfull knowing you can go from hero to zero in a short time. Enjoy it, make as much money as you can but know like any career that things can change so you need to be prepared.

When I worked at Walmart years ago, I would have horrible dreams about one particular customer that always came in and caused havoc for me and anyone working that day. He would regularly come in and buy something, then come back the next day to return it, usually for some completely out there reason. He would always throw a fit and berate and humiliate whoever was working the customer service desk. It was awful.
Haven't dreamt about him in awhile though, I guess I have made peace with it.

i also know the terror that moxiemares can bring.. terrible memories of dishwashers walking out mid-shift.. ######ed customers sending back steak after steak after steak.. incompetent managment that barely know how to order enough food to last through the week, let alone scheduling enough cooks for a shift..
*shudder*
thanks for bring up these repressed memories

Not work, but I have nightmares and dreams while going through school. I was tormented, I couldn't rest my brain for a second. I was constantly going through calculus and programming in my head, especially before am exam. I was literally practicing questions and trying to figure out problems in my sleep.

I have school dreams where I suddenly remember I have a class that I forgot about the entire semester and now all the work is due tomorrow. Its a recurring dream for me.
I also have one where I just forget to show up for work. Sitting at home watching TV and suddenly it occurs to me. "I SHOULD BE AT WORK!".

In my 5 years of working I think I can recall about 2-3 times I dreamed of work. And I tend to remember most of my dreams upon waking (although they generally fade later.)
Maybe I just didn't care that much about work, obviously it didn't make a big impact on my dream life.

I have that same forgetting to go to class until like the last week of school. Boy do I feel like a dope for forgetting to go to class.
I don't have any recurring work dreams though.

I only dream about my job if it gets REALLY busy and I'm working 12 hour days or something, and even then it's not nightmares but just dreams about work.

Me too. That one sucks.
I have a recurring workmare but not about the work itself. I quit my last job at pretty much the worst possible time for my boss, and there was a lot of yelling and desk pounding and "people don't do this to me" type stuff and I was feeling pretty smug when I sashayed out of there. My nightmare is that for some reason I end up begging for my job back. It's been a few years and I would never get myself into a circumstance where I had to do such a thing, but I still dream about it.

I have a similar one, except I know about the class but for some reason I miss it, and then I can't bring myself to go because of how behind I am and how much work I'll have to do to catch up, but the more I put off going to the class, the worse the anxiety gets. It's largely reflective of a lot of the stress in my life, which comes from things that would have been small issues had I dealt with it immediately, but which I ignored and which thus became big issues.

I worked at Greyhound package express for years, every Christmas rush I'd have nightmares about missing parcels. It's been almost 8 wonderful years since I've had to worry about that ****.

I think it just comes with working in a kitchen. I worked in one for 2 years and know exactly where you're coming from. It's been a couple months since I left but still have some nastey dreams about that place.

Me three, or four. I don't often skip class...but those classes that I do start skipping more near the end trigger this dream. Very strange dream.
And I do have dreams about my old retail job, but it has been a year -- the dreams are getting rarer.
Three years is a lot of hours. Most of the time, the premise of the dream is 'Okay, will you work ONE LAST SHIFT?'. And I do it.

Sounds like a common one. I used to have that one, but not in a long time.
When I tree planted one year, I dreamt that I could only plant a few trees because I was in my sleepingbag. When I woke up (in my sleepingbag, in my tent) I felt like I hadn't slept at all. It made for a long day.
I never seem to dream about work anymore. I wonder what that means?
