Wow. How huge is this city now? I thought the tower was younger than that though.

Wow, somebody should take a shot from the same angle and compare the two. What a difference.

The tower officially opened June 30, 1968, according to the Calgary tower website.

Wow... just... WOW!!! Though it is not hard to believe how much the city has change over the past 38 years... but it is hard to believe how fast we've grown over the past couple... but wow... BIG Difference between 68 and 06... definitely

I know this a tad off topic but it's quite amazing "then and now" photography nonetheless.

It also appears that the Palliser Hotel is the second highest building in the city at that time

Wow, and even that satellite photo is a couple of years old from what I can tell. There's a small cloud almost in the way, but I am unable to see my house.

I came to Calgary in July 69...and yep thats much the way it looked to me...the City grew exponentially huge in the boom of the 70s early 80s....much the same as it is changing now.

64th ave NW on centre steet was the city limits on the north...Midnapore was still a 15 minute drive outside the city to the south...airdrie was a small town that was a good 45 minute drive away...silver springs was just getting started in the NW I think...deerfoot hadnt even been started yet, i used to gopher hunt where it is right now...the NE development was in its infancy, I dont think it was much beyond 32nd ave at that time. Huge differences.

It won't be too long until your city has tripled in population from 1968.

The growth the downtown/whole city has experienced is nuts!!!

That is crazy how much taller the calgary tower is compaired to the other buildings, now at some angles looking into downtown you can't even see it.
