Default Name a "good" day.

Just another odd one by MMF, as I wait for dinner but here goes. Name one of those good days.. not anything major, not when you got married or when that baby was born.. but a good day and what happened. Not talking about average day either, you know.. the days were at the end you smiled, cracked open a beer and though... that was a good day.

One that just right to the top of my head, the last Final Exam I took for my Post-Secondary career. I had my final on a tuesday and needed to find a summer job asap. Got two calls the weekend before, on for CSJW which I later had to turn down because I needed time off, the later was for the one I had an interview for. I wake up, nervous about my final but head to class to get it done. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Get home, with just enough time to head to the Southeast for a job interview, I nailed it and started two days later. Got home, oh man, Bad Religion concert

Good day.

The morning my mug was on page 2 of the Calgary Sun all decked out in my Flames gear as the article was talking about the green hard hat!

That was my 15 seconds of fame

One Saturday not too long ago for me - snuggle with the wife in the morning, perfect surf session, couple of mid afternoon beers - another great surf session - few more beers and some JD- watch community theater production of Hair with a good buzz

On Hawaii, near the volcano on the big island, in the rain forest - at a B&B. A week earlier I had left my job with a severance package, so I was on vacation with NO STRESS to go back to.

The B&B had no TV, Phones, or even radio. So, the first afternoon we were there, I was looking through the books, and found Alice in Wonderland. My wife and I lounged around on the king sized bed with the window open and read. There is something about rain the jungle as it falls through the leaves. It was probably the most peaceful day I have had as an adult.

That evening, it kept raining and we hit the hot tub that was pretty much just a big tub with hot water in it out under one of the giant trees that sheltered us a bit from the rain.

It was the best way to start a 3 week vacation in Hawaii and melt away 9 years of job stress... Whenever I need to have a 'serenity now' moment, I think back to that day

You can't end there. did you flop two pair? set? runner runner straight? Hit your flush?

Did you go all in pre-flop?

LOL

Yeah it was the end of a tournament, $5 dollar buy in and it was heads up me vs some other chump. He started off heads up with a fairly decent 3-1 cheap lead, but with some schrewd play and good cards I managed to get a 4-1 chip lead on him.

So I got the 8-3, the blinds were very high by this time and he limped in on the small blind, I figured I could bully him off the hand and re-raised all in with the 8-3....he called with rockets....flop comes down J-6-8 all different suites, no flush or straight possibilites for either of us. Turn comes.....another 6...the river to come, I figure I am done like dinner and have doubled up the short stack.....but I hit one of the 2 remaining 8's and show a full boat....it was nice!

Back in '04...all of this happened to me on the same day:

1. Got a trailer hitch installed on my brand new Van...a pre-cursor to towing a tent trailer around Western Canada for the summer

2. Was offered and accepted a promotion at work, which has turned out to be a pretty significant and positive career move

3. The Flames beat wancouver in Game 7 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals

OK...maybe the first thing is kind of ho-hum but the last two made it a good day!

Pretty much every day that I'm camping is like that.

I had a day last month where we were in a hockey tournament, and we beat a team we were supposed to beat. Game was 5-4, and I had three points. Then we went on to the semi-final and lost 4-3 to a team we had no business playing against. I got 1G, 1A in that game.

That night at home I just sat back in my easy chair, drinking a brew with a smile on my face. It felt good.

I would say the day that I picked up my diploma from Carleton. I opted for not going to my graduation so I had to pick it up from the school. When I went to the admin office, the woman was so nice. She handed it to me like they would have done it at my grad., she shook my hand and congratulated me. It was really nice. Then I walked home along the Rideau Canal. It was a beautiful day, everything just looked gorgeous, and I had an overwhelming sense of pride, knowing that all the work and stress and everything had paid off.
