Still remember it like yesterday. I was on a plane from Detroit to Vegas and we were forced to land in New Mexico. Just stood there in disbeleif watching the TVs with everyone else in the concourse. So much hatred. Its still stunning to me.

Watched the special that CBS had on last night. One of the most powerful things was somebody walking towards the WTC with the one tower on fire. He was filming the 2 towers; and the 2nd plane hit from behind the building; so you couldn't see the plane approaching. So all you saw was boom- and the flames pouring out of the 2nd tower.
Very powerful stuff. My condolances go out to anybody who was affected by those events.

I was at highschool in New Jersey. Everyone in the school started watching the TV after the first plane hit. I saw the 2nd one on TV.
Within 15 minutes you could see all the smoke from the World Trade Center over the sky in New Jersey. Soo many students and teachers family and friends worked in New York City near or in the building. Pretty crazy.

I think this shows how a minority of extremists can have such an impact on the world. Terrorism is creating fear and it seems to be working as the US goverment is playing right into their hands.

I was working at Blockbuster at 10am Pacific that morning and I slept until like 945, so I got to work and I had no idea that anything had happened, and I thought my friend at work was joking. At this time, both of the buildings had already come down. Then customers started to come in and talk about it.
I didn't get off work until 630pm, so I never saw any of the scenes until I got home and despite knowing what happened and had everything described for me throughout the day, I was still shocked when I saw the TV

one of the rare times I was actually driving to work in downtown Calgary. Heard it on the radio, they weren't very clear what was happening yet, they thought it was an accident. Then the 2nd plane hit and it was pretty clear it was intentional. I got to work and had a meeting first thing in the morning, the board room television was on CNN and we saw the buildings collapse. The rest of the day was very quiet. Most people were stunned, a few had to go home. I remember standing outside, chain smoking and looking up at the buildings. "Blow Up the Outside World" by Soundgarden kept playing in my head.
I lived near the airport and the runway nearest my place had become a parking lot. I'm still upset I didn't take a photo of it.
A sad anniversary. I haven't watched any of the TV coverage. I don't need to, it's all very clear in my head.

CNN Pipeline is replaying their live feed from that day in real time. Quite horrible but astounding to watch at the same time.

Watching documentaries on it last night I still can't believe how "lucky" the terrorists were. The stars really aligned for them to be able to pull it off. There were several instances where one little thing could have brought it all to a halt.
For example the terrorists using their known terroist names on the (FBI I beilieve it was) watch list. Immagration and ports didn't have the lists though. Hindsight is always 20/20 though.

I was listening to 770 on my radio-alarm. They had a contest going so my wife wanted to try and win. I remember they announced the first plane, but there was a bunch of confusion a little bit later when there were reports of another plane being hit. It was all so surreal.

I remember all of the televisions set up at the university and everyone was gathered around them. I had two classes that day, but the professors decided to let everyone go home.
I'll never ever forget when the first tower came crashing down. It is forever etched into my mind.
My thoughts and prayers are with the families who lost loved ones five years ago today.

By the time I got to a TV that day, all 4 planes had crashed and both buildings had collapsed. I'm watching CNN's real-time replay of their broadcast - seeing a lot of footage and reports for the first time. Still horrific despite knowing and expecting all the events

I was getting to university that day. The first building had already been hit but I saw the second being hit on TV and then just watching hopelessly as the two buildings came down. My cousin worked in New York that day on September 11, 2001 at so it hits a little closer to home. Thoughts go out to all those who lost a loved one. God Bless America.

Me and a couple of friends had gone surfing before work, and after we were done and I was changing in my truck, my pager was going crazy.
There were a couple of pages from a guy at work saying 'Don't bother coming in', and 'stay off the freeway'. My wife was also paging me to find out where I was. We had thought a big earthquake had hit LA - we turned on the radio and the first thing we heard was 'The United States is under attack - people we are at war'. The reporter was just frantic describing how all these planes had been hijacked and no one knew what the hell was going on. We went back to my place and watched the first tower crumble. I will always remember how frantic the reporter sounded on the radio - I thought WWW III was underway

I woke up to the Fan 960 as usual but of course they weren't talking about sports. They described how to planes had hit the world trade centre and a helicopter (wrong info at the time) had hit the Penticon. I thought I was still dreaming. Took about 5 minutes for me to gather myself and decided to call my mom. She was pretty much in a state of shock and had been watching CNN when the 2nd plane hit. Turned on the TV and was on the phone with her still when the first tower came down.
Didn't sleep a lick almost that entire week...couldn't get the images out of my head.

It's sad but until that day I had no clue what the World Trade Center was. I knew of the towers but to me they were just "those two big buildings in New York".
That morning I was sleeping until my mom woke me up telling me that two planes had hit the World Trade Center and one had collapsed and that they figured it was terrorism. We turned on the TV in my room and about five minutes later the second tower fell. I was still half asleep so it didnt register in my head right away that I had just watched hundreds of people die.
