does your friend actually own one? if not then why should his opinion matter? if he does, is it one of the first generations? i just bought one about a month ago and i've had no issues with it at all. it's the first console i've owned since the first generation original Playstation, and i've been very happy with it

I own one. First generation. Broke down on me after about 8 months of heavy use. Still haven't gotten it fixed because it was past it's 90 day warranty and it's going to cost me 150 bucks. Before it broke down I was very happy with it. The graphics are on par with a mid range PC. It plays dvds, audio discs and streams my iPod. Live is really fun. Very good console.

If you buy one, just make sure you get the extended store/microsoft warranty.

Bought one just less than three months ago, it freezes from time to time, seems to be a common problem.

I refused the extended store warranty, more of a reflex than anything. Whenever someone tries to sell me on some extras that inflate the price I shut them down immediately.

How long does the manufacturers' warranty last? What do Future Shop and Best Buy offer, and for how much? I didn't even let the saleman get into his pitch.

By the way, I bought my 360 about 3 weeks ago anticipating the release of NHL 07. No problems at all, but it's only been 3 weeks. I did throw 2 small computer fans in my TV stand to circulate air, that should help the unit in the long run.

The Microsoft warrenty is suppose to be 90 days but I heard it's been extended to 180. But you can get an extra 2 year warrenty from Microsoft for about $56. Originally I had the three year Futureshop one but I heard some bad things about Futureshop's 360 warrenty so I decided to cancel before the 30 days was up and got it through Microsoft. The good thing is if you wanted to you could have your 360 under warrenty for as long as you have it. With Futureshop once the three years is up I would have been SOL if it happened to die.

As far as my 360 I've had it since the middle of July and have had no problems. But I also dont play the hell out of it(yet) like some people do.

Bought mine in June and no problems at all. I generally don't succumb to extra warranties in the stores but I got a 3 year at Bestbuy after hearing all the horror stories. If anything goes wrong atleast I'm covered.

Do you have to do this at the time of purchase? Or do you mail in some card later and make payment somehow?

Thanks!

Got mine in July - love it.

However, Im on my 3rd xbox. First one's ethernet port was shot, second one I got the red circle of death over and over again.

Third one I went out and bought the extended warranty. No problems yet

Bought mine in January. No problems whatsoever.

Basically, 360 problems were overblown. The actual problem rate is still less than most audio/video electronics I believe.

It's a good machine.

As well it is now evident from every expert/developer that has worked on both machines that the PS3 and 360 gameplay capabilities are essentially even. It will be very hard to tell the difference between the two machines.

If you're worried about it breaking down, buy it from Costco. Free lifetime warranty on pretty much everything there.

Do you know how much they are going for at Costco? Do they have a good packaged deal?

After I cancelled my warrenty with Futureshop I immedietly phoned 1-800-4MY-XBOX(you get a card in the box giving you a number) I believe and registered using my credit card.

Officially, I'm waiting for the Wii and PS3 to see how the complete next-gen market plays.

Unofficially, I'll be waiting for one of the 360 or PS3 to be modded.
