Default XBox 360 Owners - Extended warranty for early buyers!

For those with a 360 manufactured before Jan 1, 2006 (like me), Microsoft is extending the warranty by 1 year.

Good news, I got mine at launch and haven't played it that much so I was a bit concerned.

Were there major problems with the early batch?

Apparently enough so to warrant this move. I haven't had one, but I'm glad they did this in case I do.

So how do I go about getting an extended warranty for my 360? I don't have one at all as far as I know, and have had my Xbox since Dec of 05.

Well since you got one before Jan 1, you by default get a 1 year warranty now.

If you want to extend beyond that there's an extended warranty card in your Xbox box, give them a call and they can do it for you. Before I was not sure if you could do it after your default warranty (what, 3 or 6 months?) expired, and I don't know if their extending it has any impact either, best to call them.

Also read this at the official xbox.com thread that this news emerged from:

Quote:
all Xboxen purchased prior to January 1st, 2006 are getting a free one-year warranty extension, but that's not all. Anyone who paid to have one of the older units repaired will be refunded their $140 via a fat check from Microsoft. Call 1-800-4my-xbox to cash in. Have your console on your lap so you can give them the serial numbers. However, you must have your original receipt.
