Default Dallas Official Wants Baggy Pants Outlawed

Price said banning saggy slacks might be the only way to get children to pull up their pants.A look around school campuses leaves some wondering just how low baggy pants can go."Pull them up. That's just my first thought," parent Shalonda Alexander said.

Are todays Baggies different from yesterdays tighties?

I hate them personally...but dont think governments should be in the business of telling people what to wear. Schools can have ordinances that suggest what the kids can wear or not.

If you want to wear baggy pants I don't see the harm. It's not just in Dallas but everywhere where kids are wearing them. Who care's.

I don't think the issue is that the pants are baggy, I think its that they hang just below one's ass, so that about 7 inches of your underwear is visible for all to see. I'm not sure about regulating it... but I certainly hate the style myself... if you can walk around with your underwear that far out, why can't you walk around in just your underwear and ditch the pants altogether?

You probably could actually. What's the difference between walking around in only underwear and walking around in a speedo?

I don't think they let you walk around in speedo's in school, but I'm not sure.

Well in interest of the decency of classmates you probably shouldn't. But I'm not sure- your probably right. Only one more reason why uniforms aren't that bad an idea.

Guys, there's a stigmata that goes with wearing big pants and it's not a joke. Gang members are infamous for wearing these types of clothes and using them to conceal weapons. It got so bad in places such as Dallas, South Central LA, Kansas City, Chicago, that police are trying to find anyway they can to combat the crime. If you can't conceal the weapon or the drugs with big clothes, it helps the police do their job.

I realize that's a very stereotypical way of looking at it, but that the most simple way you can break down the attempt to ban it. Trust me, it's not because people consider it an eyesore because there are other things you see people doing/wearing that look just as bad. Goth? Hello!!?? No one is looking to ban all black clothes and black make-up now are they? Because they have no right to. But then again, people who dress in goth aren't known for pulling an ak-47 out of the crotch of their pants and shooting someone in the head.

Anyway, I hope it doesn't reflect badly on me that I typed this out. It's not necessarily my feelings, but upper level of society in general. They're openly admitting their stereotypes with attempted laws such as this.
