Default Second Life addicts?

My friend just recently showed this online world to me. Anyone here addicted to this? I've heard of people having board meetings and conducting business through this, not to mention all the other possibilities. Pretty crazy. They apparently have over half a million users. Anyone here have a second life?

Umm... No.

But ... as I work in the MMO industry, I do loads of market research, and know a fair bit about this product.

In any event, I find this funny, but there are actually women who earn a living 70k-100k on average by being online prostitutes in Second Life. It's amazing really.. The again, I'm sure that some have earned similar salaries from phone sex work in the past. So, there's always a market for this sort of thing...

Oh my. I'm sure it is something that we all (those of us tech minded folks) have thought of, but I didn't know something like this existed yet. I haven't looked deep, so I have no idea what it really is like...but this thing has 'addiction' written all over it.

It's pretty cool, you can create all your own content and objects, even complex ones requiring code and stuff.

Everything has to be streamed down to your computer as you move around, which is both good because then you can have a player generated world, and bad because it isn't that fast (for whatever reason).

I tried it for a few days about 2 years ago, not really my thing.

Although it was fun to have an illegally coded gun, go around and shoot people, which sent them flying 5 miles from where they were.

I work for Telus and there are rumors that Telus wants to sell product on Second life as well. Still, from all of our Calgary Puck users i'm suprised more people here don't do this since it seems to be quite the rage.
