My wife and I bought our tent trailer at Field of Dreams RV out at the same location near Callaway Park. Quite possibly the best purchase experience of my life, great salesman (Brian) and a great staff to go along with a smoking price.

Did you get the trailer inspected by a different company? Or do they have someone on staff (or possibly another company, but close by) to do inspections for you? This part really, really makes me nervous. I hate spending $4k on a car, let alone a tent trailer.

My wife has found a smoking deal for a tent trailer at this place, and I have to say that the deal sounds waaaay too good to be true. To the point that we could probably flip it for an extra $2k or so.
So I want to know what to expect with these guys. Scam artists? Anyone have any dealings with these guys?

i almost bought our trailer from them, spent quite a bit of time with a sales guy named Terry, who seemed nice enough although I could never shake the "car salesman" aura.
anyhow, landed up with a unit at Field of Dreams and the sales guy was an a-hole, but the unit was what we wanted.
either way, be prepared for a full rinse and disinfecting once you get through the business office, its such a dirty experiance. i dont know about you all, but i hate the whole experiance of buying a car and the RV dealer is the same process.

haha
great time for this thread as I just bought my new toy hauler from there.
we just bought a brand new 2005 Extreme 5th Wheel from them.
its the 380fxg model.
apparently it was one of those units that just didnt sell.
list on this one was 60K and we picked it up for 34,900. the unit came complete with an on board generator, 5500 watts, and 115L fuel cell.
The sales guy Eddy was great and the rest of the staff were equally is good.
When I went down to pick it up, Bob, the walk through guy, was simply outstanding and we went through a tour that lasted almost two hours. He didnt miss anything.
I cant recommend Guarantee enough. They were awesome!

Good to know, Sample. I just can't believe the price that this guy is willing to give us for this trailer. He's putting it on hold, and doing everything he possibly can to convince me that he's incredibly eager (too eager, I think) to sell this unit. We've done a lot of research on prices, and this unit could easily sell for $6k, and he's willing to give it to us for $4k. It just sounds fishy, but at the same time it sounds like they were the same way towards you. That post did a lot to ease my mind.

I guess the next question is, how hard is it to tow a tent trailer? I've never towed anything in my life, so this should be an interesting experience. Is it just a matter of being aware and taking wide enough turns?

Hey, perfect timing for this thread.
I'm going up there this week to try and find a truck camper...or a toy hauler for my sleds. What's the name of this place again? Are they loaded up with stock right now???

The name of the place is Guarantee RV. I'll let you know how it goes today, as everything seems too good to be true.

And let me know the name of the salesman you use. Tell him you have another guy looking for a truck camper....
I just looked at their website, and the campers are listed at 30k+. If I can cut that down significantly, I'll for sure pick one up.

Pulling a tent trailer is easy; assuming your vehicle can handle the weight correctly. It's the backing up that takes a bit of practice.
About getting the good deal; I wonder if the tent trailer is the one that the police found the dead body in last week.

Yes, I know that was pretty mean. =)

Towing itself isn't too hard. Like you say, being aware of what is behind you and leaving appropriate braking distance between you and the guy in front of you. You will have a tent trailer, which might mean no brakes, so your towing vehicle may be doing the braking for both itself and the trailer. Defensive driving is king; I'm constantly amazed at how many people cut me off when towing...
What vehicle will you be towing with, and how much does the tent trailer weigh (overall weight and tongue weight)?

I'll have to get the specs for the weight when I get there. We're towing it with a 95 Chevy Lumina APV, 3.8L, I think. Apparently it's good enough to tow a tent trailer.
Guarantee RV is going to be installing brakes on the trailer, but I imagine some wiring will have to be involved inside the van before the brakes on the trailer can be used.

you shouldnt have any problems in towing that unit with your vehicle.
as a side note.
without getting into a bunch of details. they had another toy hauler there listed at 59K and the salesman told me without batting an eye that he could take 10k off that price without talking to the salesmanager.
so that gives you an idea of the markup and the willingness to get your business.
I was very comfortable in dealing with them.
and I know that I got a great deal!
I have had people offer to buy my unit off me already for 10K more than I paid for it. But, I like it too much to sell it!!!

I would double check all of your towing weights before you buy - both for the vehicle and the trailer.
Basically take GCVW - GVWR = max allowable for the trailer. If you plan on doing any travelling to BC, and you are not within the limits, they will make you leave the trailer until you have a vehicle that can legally tow it. If they stop you that is...

The wife and I are just thinking about a trailer - only semi seriously but this thread is interesting.
We have a 2005 Honda Minivan that can tow ( i think) 3500 lbs.
What does that equate to? A tent trailer? Anything bigger?
We're not really campers so I'm a little hesitant to jump into anything pricey only to find out we don;t like it, but I know something resembling a kitchen and bathroom will keep the wife happy.
What's the cost per year of running an RV like that?
