Beds?
Anyone bought a bed recently or work selling beds? What is up with how high they all are now?
I just got a new bed delivered I bought from Sears. Set it all up with the frame, boxspring and mattress and it sits over 2 feet high, 27 inches. When I sit on it, my feet just barely touch the ground. My old sheets wouldn't fit because the mattress is so much thicker. I lie down and I feel like I can touch the ceiling. Crazy.
Sure is comfortable though.

You can buy low-profile box springs now, to compensate for the bank-vault thickness of mattresses.

Just got a new one delivered on Sunday and you're right, it's higher than the old one. I'm glad we didn't got for the extra height mattress! Agree with the comfort, much better, plus we bought a King size so a lot more room to spread out.

I've never quite understood why mattress/box spring manufacturers haven't clued into the fact that most people don't like trying to climb into bed as if it were a vaulting event at a Gymnastics event....
Hell, I miss my old Captain's bed - zero boxspring, just a mattress on MDF.... great for us that like a rock hard mattress.

When I used to work in a furnature and appliance store I often went to the bedding product knowledge sessions because they always took us out to Smuggler's after. Anyways, when that question would come up they would tell us that once people have a higher bed for a few years they have a hard time going back to a smaller bed.
Also has a lot to do with what we are wanting on our beds. We want springs that can handle variable loads, prevent motion transfer, and a pillow top as well. All those things add to the height as well.
You can still buy shorter beds, but most people don't because they want the features in a taller bed; because they like the comfort. We tell the manufacturers what we want by voting with our wallets. All of us on these higher beds told the manufacturers we like the higher beds.

I agree. I have a giant bed to get into every night and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
It's the perfect height for other activities as well.

That's the bottom line for me. Is it comfortable?
If I need a step ladder to get into bed, I'll do it to get a good nights sleep.

My face is a bum!

I like my beds hard, and an extra firm matress skips the pillow top, and if you eliminate the box spring and put it on a low bed that just has MDF underneath, you're set!

Sounds nice... I've been sleeping on an air mattress for the last little while as a result of getting rid of my terribly old bed. A new bed should be coming soon though.
