Default Motoroloa Razr V3i

Hey everyone... I know there are a few threads about cell phones, but this is sort of a new topic.

I just got the V3i, and I am wondering if anyone knows how to use my own mp3's as ringtones. Usually I am not so bad at techie stuff but for some reason I am having a hard time. If you know how to help, please be as detailed as possible. Thanks ahead of time!

I also need help with setting different ringtones for different people in my phonebook, and so on. Let me know how to do this if you know.

The manual, to be honest, doesn't help that much.

The best I can determine is that the phone doesn't allow me to set up pictures for people in my phonebook, nor does it let me specify different ringtones for different contacts.

So much for this "best phone ever" bull crap everyone says. I haven't even had this Razr one day and I am already wondering why I bothered to get it. It certainly doesn't even have the simplest features my old phone had. What a crock.

I have a hard time believing you can't set pictures for people in your phonebook, but then again, I don't know anything about those phones.

Maybe the manuals online will be more comprehensive than the one that came in the box?

you need a program called mobile phone tools. and, depending on your carrier, you may need to hack the phone to make it able to import/export your own files.

alright I'll try to find that program someplace other than full price! And I looked into some hacking the phone, and it is all way too complicated for me- if I have to hack to get it, then forget it I'll just live with less than I really want.

Most phones are proprietary and expressly make it near impossible for users to upload their own photos and ringtones and games and software in the hopes of charging you more down the line by purchasing their own services which you have to get via their own mobile services or mobile browser, etc.

Nothing is impossible if you have the right cables and software but you'll have to look into...err other markets for those. Trust me, you'll pretty much have to hack any phone you buy to get the desired amount of functionality out of it.

That site might help, or the links off of it... Just to give you an idea of how these things work. Cell phone companies are a *******. My 710 is totally awesome now, but only after I hacked the hell out of it. No thanks to Telus.

I have this phone, and in the main menu under phonebook, it clearly lets you assign pictures taken or imported into the phone to a phone number....mind you, I bought mine in Dubai and it may have different firmware. Let me look and the ring tones....but I'm pretty sure you can take one out of the phones itunes and assign it as a ring tone...I'll have a look tonite....

This phone really does kick but...one of the better motorolas out there!

Go to motomodders.net

Use bugmenot to log in, or register. In the software section there is P2KTools. Get that. I think there is a bunch of guides on that site too on how to do things.

I suggest backing up your phone completely before you do anything crazy. You can really screw them up if you get into SEEM editing and flexing or anything like that.

motorola phone tools well let you use any mp3 as a ringtone and will even let you crop it exactly how you want (though it is a little cumbersome). least it's that way with my V360, i would assume it's the same across the different motorola brands

I have the motorola phone tools and the Razr V3i. It will let me upload my own mp3's but it will not let me select them as a ringtone. I'm going to try some of the hack sites listed above.

I am thinking of getting this phone but i was wondering if the standard charger is the same as all motorla's? I get tired of having to position the phone and charger just right in order to charge the phone.

I just bought the new Nokia slider and it isn't difficult at all to send over pics/mp3s etc.
Using blutooth, infered, wires or the mini sd card I can swap stuff from my computer and phone without any fees or airtime.
Can't speak for all phones, but there's almost nothing proprietary about mine.

As for Razr's.. I've heard some bad things which is why I went with the Nokia. If anyone is thinking of an alternative to the Razr. This phone is amazing. Slighly big, but the functionality and features can't be beat.

there are a couple new versions of the razr coming out very soon, with smaller and with more features, so i would recommend people hold off for a little bit if they can.

Well.. I have a Motorola V360... and I can set photos and ringtones for people easily.. I can also set mp3 as ringtones as well...

Though this one uses a Transflash card (u can use it as an SD card when u have the converter) so all I do is load the mp3 and photos onto the SD card and then take the transflash card out and put it back into my phone...

Now... I do not know if the Razr has this feature, but if it does.. thats how I'd do it... if it doesn't... then I don't know

I don't have a mp3 phone. But this is what I use. To put ringtones and photos on my phone.
