I guess it's fairly common, not just in Vancouver's east end.

I don't think there would be an uproar personally. I mean, the whole point of taking it is to ween people off heroin, if it really was to administer diet heroin, I would imagine the junkies know how to get better stuff. But by getting over their drug addiction they are probably saving health-care more money, let alone costs of policing, unemployment, homeless shelters etc. that would be alleviated if addicts rehabilitated.
Methodone is like the patch for cigarette smokers. If a smoker gets an urge to smoke, are they going to go to the pharmacy and pick up nicorette or just buy a pack of smokes?
I am a little surprised that the pharmacy can administer it though...

New tanglike drink in Calgary?
Maybe it is (Alex) Tang-Aid!
[Okay maybe that would have been funnier if I had a snappy photoshop picture to accompany my quip. Alas...]

If people took the time to think about it, I'm sure they would rather stand next to someone on methadone than, say, someone who is taking anti-psychotics, fighting severe incontence, has bad gas, or the flu.
A pharmacy is pretty much a hotzone. All the cards, chips and chocolate in the world can't hide the fact that this is the place were sick people get chemicals to help them get well. To NIMBY out methadone users probably would remove some of the more pleasant people you can run into by the back counter.
With that said, I think that, if a pharmacy is going to administer methadone, they should have private consultation rooms that can be used for this and other sensitive purposes.

Yeah, I can see people freaking out over this too.

Yeah, that would probably be a little bit better, just in terms of confidentiality for the patient.
What is kind of a little disturbing is how these people get home from the pharmacy after they are administered the drug. Do they get in their cars and drive after taking methodone? It just seems like something like that should be given in rehab clinics or hospitals, but in the end, if it's helping these people I guess it's a good thing.

If it weren't for the nosies like fotze looking at these people going into the 'private' rooms, maybe it would be a good idea. Imagine the speculation in that case though!

I don't think it takes anyone to outerspace, more like the land of nod.
