Regardless of your politics, this review in the New York Times today is pretty funny in places, sober in others, a look at "Celsius 41.11 - The Temperature at Which the Brain Begins to Die," a documentary made in six weeks that is billed as "The Truth Behind the Lies of Fahrenheit 9/11!"

An excerpt:

After its premiere in Georgetown on Tuesday night, there seemed to be two prevailing sentiments among the solidly Republican crowd of 300. One was that the film is a lot more thoughtful and accurate than "Fahrenheit 9/11." The other was that it is not going to gross $100 million.

Pretty funny line and probably true.

BTW... if anyone is interested in seeing a trailer you can catch it here.Trailer

My comments after watching the trailer, it's nothing at all like F911. Michael Moore did some actual research into his film, this appears to be nothing but a political endorsement of Bush which evokes the "fear" that 911 put in us. While Moore did not use the images of the 911 attacks, and relied on the aftermath to send his message, these folks proudly roll out the footage and exploit it right off the bat. I would be very interested to see the rest of the film and see what the message is behind it. Is it just an attempt to politic for Bush (what is Kerry doing on the promotion materials at all, he was not involved in the F911 production at all), or does it have a message like F911? Does it focus in the impact that America is feeling, or is it going to be a series of "pro-war" images which are supposed to make one feel a need to go to war? Moore's film was brilliant because it focused on America and Americans. It was about the impacts of the decisions that were made after 911 and how the average American was impacted. I will be really interested to see this "documentary", but I have a feeling that it does not make it to theatres near you nor have a wide distribution to video.

Editted for obvious error.

I can't wait to see what another source has to say... this one not owned by Rupert Murdock.

The New York Times is owned by Rupert Murdoch?

I think you're talking about the New York Post. Wrong paper.

And the Times isn't Bush-friendly.

Oh man. what a piece of crap. I guess the ending statement is "we have to attack them before they get the capablitites of attacking the US". Well i guess they are going to invade North Korea tomorrow. I'm sooo glad i don't live in the US.

As a film, devoid of any political context, Moore's film is admirable as it is brillaintly and emotionally constructed, logical, has an emotional core (Lila Lipscomb, the woman who lost her son in Iraq). It's constructed in an "anyone can do this" fashion, but there is no way anybody can match it's production values with a poorly slapped together version.

What I love is the folks still p*ssed that Moore was able to do with his documentary what nobody else can emulate outside of Eroll Morris (brilliant in his own right). Here's the roll call from the film. There are partisan takes on Bush's administration in F911, but most of them are Senators and those on the inside who have seen what the neocon agenda has done. Here is the roll call from this film, featuring people far off the beaten like Michael Medved and the kid from The Wonder Years:

Appearances by
FRED BARNES
MICHAEL BARONE
BARBARA COMSTOCK
ALICE FISHER
MANSOOR IJAZ
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER
MICHAEL LEDEEN
MICHAEL MEDVED
JOSHUA MURAVCHIK
JOHN O’NEILL
BILL SAMMON
FRED THOMPSON
VICTORIA TOENSING

Meh. These folks still cling to the belief then that the terrorists were associated with Iraq's regime. And the soundbite of Moore in the trailer "There is no terrorist threat..." is taken out of context by not having the last part of the sentence attached to it "...posed by the Iraqi regime."

Heck in Moore movie Condy and Colin even said so!
