THRASHERS ACQUIRE ANOTHER DEFENSEMAN

For the second consecutive day, the Atlanta Thrashers acquired a bonafide defenseman through a trade. The Thrashers swung a deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday afternoon that saw the Thrashers obtain 29 year old veteran defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky. In exchange for the premier defenseman, the Blue Jackets recieved a very good young player in 22 year old LW Matt Stajan and veteran defenseman Cory Cross.

Atlanta GM Neil Sutaria was unable to comment on the deal at press time but did say that the Thrashers were not done in making more deals to improve their team.

Columbus announces the acquisition of Matt Stajan and Cory Cross from Atlanta in exchange for upcoming UFA Lubomir Visnovsky.

"We were leary about losing Lubo for nothing at the end of the season, or being forced to pay him 10 million, saw an opportunity to get a solid young forward, and we also received a cheap and capable #6 defender." GM Trotta stated, "with so many of our players facing RFA and UFA status at the end of the upcoming season, we have to run our team wisely, hold onto strategically valuable players and maintain the strongest roster possible."
